Argentinians march towards Plaza de Mayo to commemorate the day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice

Under the slogan "never again", massive mobilizations have place throughout Argentina to commemorate the day of remembrance for truth and justice, 49 years after the 1976 civil-military coup d'etat

00:04of everything that is happening in this important day in Buenos Aires and in all over Argentina.

00:09Welcome again Belen.

00:10Hello studios.

00:11We continue here in downtown Buenos Aires.

00:12The hours have passed.

00:13And we were saying this is one of the highest turnouts for a March 24th commemoration.

00:14It's been historic.

00:15Every year Argentinians gather together across the country but particularly in downtown Buenos

00:34Aires.

00:35They are marching towards Plaza de Mayo that is just one block away from where we're standing

00:40right now.

00:41And in this case they did it in unity to not only denounce the brutality and the criminality

00:50of that coup d'etat that started in 1976 but also to denounce the present policies of the

00:57government of Javier Mele.

00:59Actually, many of the chants and also in the official documents, this is a very situated,

01:05political situated act that is taking place here in Argentina and it's clear that the

01:10political organizations, the social organizations, the human rights organizations including grandmothers

01:15and mothers of Plaza de Mayo are very clear that the political motive behind this march

01:23is one, to continue the act of memory, to continue reinstating that the violence, the

01:31terrorism act of the state in that civic military dictatorship in the 70s and early 80s will

01:39not happen again in Argentina but also to use this moment to mobilize against the policies

01:45of the government of Javier Mele, against the repression that has been constantly carried

01:50out by the government of Javier Mele and in that framework we need to understand the significance

01:55and the importance of this turnout.

01:57Let's recall that we're just days after one of the coolest repressions that took place

02:03also in downtown Buenos Aires.

02:05We're talking about the mobilizations in favor of the retirees and against the pension cuts

02:11that have been carried out by the government of Javier Mele.

02:15The repression was brutal with injured, with also a journalist, a person from the press

02:22that is fighting for his life and the response to that criminal brutality from part of the

02:29state is a massive turnout at this March 24th and that is truly a popular response

02:36in the face of the act of the current government of Javier Mele.

02:40So we continue here in downtown Buenos Aires.

02:43The day has not ended yet.

02:46The act has already passed and it's just one more March 24th but with this significant

02:53force and this significant meaning that is saying never again to state violence and also

02:59never again to neoliberal policies such as the ones of Javier Mele that are targeting

03:05in particularly the working class.
