00:00A sedan heading to Jitra from Pendang lost control while trying to avoid a parked lorry,

00:07leading to a five-vehicle crash that killed three passengers early Wednesday.

00:12The five-vehicle collision on kilometre 58.4 of the North-South Expressway near Pendang

00:17also injured three people.

00:19Pendang District Police Chief Superintendent Rodzi Abu Hassan said the 3.20 am incident

00:25involved the sedan, three lorries and a pickup truck.

00:29Preliminary investigations revealed that the 27-year-old sedan driver was travelling in

00:34the right lane with three passengers, aged 26 to 32, as the left lane was closed for

00:40repairs.

00:42Upon reaching the location, the sedan lost control while trying to avoid a parked lorry

00:47that had stopped in the right lane without proper warning.

00:50The car then swerved and grazed two other lorries parked in the left lane.

00:54Moments later, a pickup truck carrying four people crashed into both the sedan and the lorry.

01:00The impact killed three passengers in the sedan at the scene, while the driver and two

01:05others sustained injuries and were taken to Sultana Bahia Hospital for treatment.

01:10Rodzi said investigations determined that the lorry driver's failure to provide warning

01:14signals or supervision led to the crash.

01:18Authorities have yet to locate the lorry driver, who has not come forward to file a report.

01:23The case is being investigated under Section 41, Subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
