So we're welcoming a new sponsor this week, another new sponsor that's near and dear to my
00:03
heart as a New York bred, the New York Thoroughbred Breeders. And we're super excited to have them.
00:08
It's obviously a great program. We've seen over the past 10 years, especially that New York breds
00:14
can run anywhere in the world and compete at the top levels. And that's definitely a credit to
00:19
people at the NYTB because that wasn't always the case. There was a time when, I did a story on this
00:24
a couple of years ago when I was up at Saratoga, there was a time where New York bred full crops
00:29
were declining pretty steadily, but the incentive programs and the great racing purse structure that
00:35
they have has really bumped that back up. And it's once again, a program on the rise. So we're
00:41
honored to have the New York Thoroughbred Breeders on as a sponsor. And it was good timing because
00:46
the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall mix sale returned this past Monday after a one-year hiatus in 2020
00:52
due to COVID. The sale came back with positive results and saw the most expensive horse through
00:56
its ring in its eight-year history. A New York bred Weanling Philly by Catalina Cruiser that
01:02
sold to Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Dean and Patty Reeves for $195,000. And New York-based
01:08
sires were also represented and led by a $100,000 cult by leading New York sire, Freud. Freud is a
01:14
hard knocker, man. He is still out here producing the nice horses, especially on the turf. Very,
01:19
very admirable sire. And an exciting New York bred son of Candy Ride got his second stakes
01:25
when on Monday, Senbay, who we saw win the funny side at Saratoga over the summer, won the New
01:30
York Breeders' Feature. He had Finger Lakes by Four Links for Christophe Clamant and owners
01:34
Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, just mentioned them, and Darlene Bielinski, a two-year-old was bred
01:38
by Dr. Jerry Bielinski and folded his Waldorf farm. Looks to have an exciting future. And I
01:44
know they have some new breeding announcements that John knows a little bit about as well.
01:50
Well, what's great about the New York program is they make it very simple. And as a breeder who's
01:56
out of state, I appreciate that. So we actually have two resident mares that live in New York
02:02
year-round and are bred to New York stallions. And obviously, they get the benefits of being
02:06
able to run in New York bred races going forward, which for most of the year in New York, the maiden
02:13
special weight races for New York breds are $80,000, $90,000, $100,000, and the AOL event is
02:18
just as much. So you have a chance if you win the maiden special weight race against New York
02:23
breds and the AOL event against New York breds, you have a chance to make $100,000 to $120,000
02:28
right off the bat. So that's with only winning two races, which is great. And then they've also,
02:33
over the past couple of years, have included something with regard to the sales, which we
02:40
obviously have a lot of breeding stock sales coming up, where if you buy a mare for $50,000
02:46
or more at public auction and bring it to New York, that fall can be considered a New York
02:51
bred, regardless of if it's by a New York stallion or not. So they're making it very
02:57
simple to bring in higher priced mares to fall out in New York to get that New York bred.
03:03
And case in point, Joe, I don't even know if I mentioned this before, but we actually bought
03:08
a Constitution New York bred at the Saratoga sale because it was a New York bred. And I mean,
03:14
he was gorgeous. And we actually kept calling him the man. He's the man. He's the man because
03:18
he looked so outstanding compared to a couple of the rest of the horses that were on that list.
03:23
And to have a Constitution New York bred colt, I mean, it really blew our minds that we were able
03:28
to pair those two together. So kudos to New York Breeding Program for making the rules simple for
03:33
guys like me to understand. And also another great idea, being here on the show and being a sponsor.
03:40
Yeah. And, you know, John is definitely invested in the New York bred program. I'm not personally
03:45
financially invested, but I'm invested in seeing New York breds do well. Like I said,
03:49
as a New York bred myself and a big supporter of New York racing. And it's just great,
03:53
like I said, to have seen the resurgence of that program in the last 10, 15 years or so.
03:57
They're doing a lot of things right. And we're very happy and honored to have them on the show
04:01
as a sponsor. And we'll be right back after this message from the New York thoroughbred breeders.
04:06
Now, more than ever, it's time to get with the program because New York reds start with
04:11
an advantage. New York reds run for a serious green at Belmont and Saratoga. New York red
04:19
maidens run for up to $75,000 and allowance horses for up to $85,000. And a serious New
04:26
York red owners can collect awards of up to $20,000 per horse per race in open company.
04:32
So get back with the program. Seriously.
