00:44I love that Mariah's such a songwriter, which obviously is your background as well.

00:47You went viral recently for that conversation you were having about respect for songwriters in your early days.

00:51Why do you feel like that hit so hard?

00:54I just think we need to understand where the value is.

00:58The value is in the song.

01:00If there's no song, there's no one to sing it.

01:02There's nothing for you to play on your platform.

01:05And I think we need to stop devaluing the most important thing, which is the copyright.

01:12I think it's a disgrace that some people can't afford to even get to the studio.

01:17They can't afford gas. They can't afford Uber.

01:19They can't afford a car. They can't afford to eat.

01:23Your song is on the radio.

01:25And you have to wait two years to see .00000017th of a penny.

01:31It's ridiculous.

01:33Coming from that side and now being on this side, something needs to change. It's not right.

01:37And then of course, you're being honored at Women in Music, but also a lot of other amazing women being honored.

01:42Dochi, Gorilla, Erykah Badu.

01:44How do you feel about some of our honorees this year that you're alongside?

01:47Billboard Women in Music has been a goal of mine to attend.

01:51To just attend and be in that room.

01:53And so now, to be able to be getting honored to perform, it's like, alright, I might be kind of good at this manifestation thing.
