Should adult children live at home due to rising house prices?

With the cost of housing making it harder for young people to move out, we ask locals whether they’d let their adult children and their families continue living at home.

00:00So I have two, what we could call adult children now. My son is almost 18, works full time

00:05and my daughter is 20, nearly 21, also works, still obviously live at home with me. And

00:12if I'm honest, I'm happy for them to live with me until they're able to afford to buy

00:18somewhere of their own.

00:19I would up to a certain extent, obviously the property ladder is very hard to get on

00:25and you don't want to push your child out of your home if you know they're going to

00:29struggle. So financially, I think it's up to a parent to take responsibility and do

00:35the needful for their child at the end of the day.

00:38On a long term basis, no. I think if it's a short term, you know, stop gap whilst you're

00:43trying to briefly save the last little bit for your housing deposit or if there's an

00:49incident or someone being made redundant, then yeah, absolutely. I think that's what

00:52families are there for, to help each other out. But I don't think it's a long term solution

00:56to have family members just moving back in with you.
