SP Escudero: Impeachment trial vs. VP Duterte can begin “after June 30”

“After June 30” would be the earliest time the Senate can convene as an impeachment court against Vice President Sara Duterte, according to Senate President Chiz Escudero during a press conference on Wednesday, February 19.

00:04After the 20th Congress convenes. That's what I've been saying from day one.

00:08We will do all of the preliminary matters before trial, before the 20th Congress.

00:13But most likely, trial itself will commence once the 20th Congress convenes.

00:21Dahil kung hindi, tandaan nyo matatapos ang term ng labindalawang senador pagkatapos ng June 30.

00:30Yung sinasabi kong paalitan ng dokumento, tapos na yung June 30 dun eh.

00:35So, labing dalawa lang ang senador, paano naman kami magta-trial ng labindalawa?

00:47So, the soonest time you can convene the impeachment court for trial purposes would be

00:52once the Senate is complete with 24 members.

00:56That will happen after June 30 and once the new Senate has entered into its function.
