00:00Thomas Dietrich birdies the final four holes to win by seven shots.

00:05Belgium's first PGA Tour winner.

00:07He played the University of Illinois.

00:10Justin Thomas has called him freakishly talented.

00:14This is a guy that's my this has kind of been our luck this entire year.

00:17I've been on Thomas teacher.

00:19You have, man. Yeah.

00:20And then this was the week where I finally go away from him.

00:22And what does he do? He just he runs away with it.

00:25So, I mean, I think this is a guy that whose game has

00:28been trending the last couple of years.

00:30I mean, not that I didn't know of him, but I remember last year,

00:33particularly watching him at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and really saying,

00:37this is a guy I need to pay attention to because because he's going to win soon.

00:41And it was just about a year later at the W Phoenix Open here

00:44where he gets it done.

00:45He always kind of stands out.

00:46So he's got that that G4 colorful glove.

00:49That's kind of his his little iconic touch there.

00:51And Hugo Boss clothing guy, if I'm not mistaken.

00:54But you were you were out there this week, you know, covering the golf

00:58for for Golf Channel as part of that kind of combined broadcast CBS.

01:02What did you see from Thomas Dietrich this week?

01:05They really just impressed you the most.

01:07Well, just really freaking good golf.

01:09I mean, this is this is a golf course that

01:13to kind of explain to you how it plays.

01:16It was really firm.

01:17The fairways this week, the rough was up enough

01:21to where it promoted some serious challenges heading into the greens

01:25because the greens were firm and they took all the whole locations

01:29in the corners of the greens and really like up against the edges to where I find

01:35this golf course in particular makes it so tricky to figure out

01:39what putts are doing in the last like thirds of the putt.

01:43So, you know, if you put the whole locations

01:47in the middle of the green at this golf course, compare it to

01:51any other course, like on the PGA Tour, how much easier it plays,

01:54like when pins are like set up pretty easy, but they just tuck these whole

01:58locations and it makes you it puts a premium on driving,

02:01having the correct angles into the green.

02:03You honestly would rather have been in the desert than being in the primary rough.

02:07So that's just a little bit about the golf course.

02:10And it was a great week of weather

02:13and Dietrich, who I saw maybe hit like two shots as like

02:16he was always around my group, but never in my group.

02:19I mean, come on, dude, right?

02:21Like how good is that golf?

02:23I mean, to win by that much, I think the the one thought

02:28that I've been thinking about the most is how he's never won

02:33like as a professional besides his win on the challenge tour

02:37where he won by 12 shots in 2016.

02:40To me, that speaks to a talent of a player to be able to say,

02:45hey, if if you can go win any golf tournament,

02:48I don't care where it is in the world by 12 shots.

02:51It just shows what you're capable of as far as just being able

02:54to dominate a golf course in a field.

02:56And not shocking to see that his first win was by seven shots, right?

03:00Like this is what he's capable of.

03:02He's very talented, frequently talented, like you said, J.T.

03:05said on the broadcast.

03:08But I was really

03:11I think we all felt like he was going to come back to us.

03:14You know what I mean?

03:15Like it just felt like Thomas over the last couple of years.

03:18He's shown that that.

03:22Or is he ready for it?

03:24You know, I just didn't think he was.

03:26And I think

03:28he just looks so good the entire week.

03:32And every time I thought he was going to take a step back,

03:35he took a step forward, like not just, you know, just even Sunday,

03:38starting out with a birdie on the first hole, not the easiest hole

03:41in the golf course makes birdie.

03:43And, you know, I think when you look at the scoreboard, too,

03:47besides a seven shot win and you see what he shot on Sunday,

03:51which was tied for the lowest score on Sunday, it's like,

03:55come on, man, that's that's incredible.
