00:00Can you name one company that has experience in the vehicle inspection industry?

00:07There is no company in Malaysia that has experience in vehicle inspection

00:11because in the past, vehicle inspection was a monopoly.

00:14It was only one company.

00:16Transport Minister Lok Siu Fok defended the government's decision to appoint three companies

00:22to carry out motor vehicle inspection services,

00:26ending Puspakom's longstanding monopoly of the industry.

00:32Lok said the vehicle inspection industry was now open to any company

00:37and that a free market allows other firms to apply to provide vehicle inspection services.

00:46We are now opening this market to more players in the industry, more companies.

00:52And what we want to see is their ability to provide that facility.

00:56Previously, Putrajayaan appointed Wawasan Pintang, Pakatan Petroleum and Beriman Gold

01:03to carry out motor vehicle inspections alongside Puspakom.

01:07A former past youth leader had questioned the selection of one of the companies,

01:12arguing that it was only eight months old and had no track record.

01:18The ministry later said a specific registration period

01:22with the company's Commission of Malaysia was not a requirement for appointment.
