00:00
Harry, thank you for joining us. Finally we're sitting here on the end of a deserved three
00:06
points. It feels like it's been far too long since we've said that. Can I get your thoughts
00:10
on the game first?
00:11
Yeah, no, very, very overdue that. We've put ourselves in unbelievable positions over the
00:16
past few games to win. Unfortunately couldn't get it over the line, but today, I mean, we
00:22
dug so deep and we wanted it so much to get those three points tonight and luckily we
00:26
did that.
00:27
Yeah, I'm not sure how to describe it really, but the only way I can think of it is it looked
00:30
like the lads were almost playing with a real sense of anger out there. Just, come on, we've
00:34
deserved so much from these last few games. Walked away with nothing on far too many occasions
00:38
and it was just like, it was never going to not happen. You know, obviously when Steven
00:42
Deke realised we all thought for a moment it might as the game sort of ticked on, but
00:45
you know, a real sense of determination out there, wasn't there?
00:48
100 per cent, that's it. From Saturday against Bolton, we had so much desire today to get
00:53
the three points. We should have come away with so much more the other day. So like you
00:58
said, we were all angry on the pitch and we put that into the three points and yeah, we
01:03
got there in the end.
01:04
Yeah, I think you translated your anger into your goal, to be fair. I don't think you did
01:08
it any harder. When the ball falls to you in the edge of the box, I mean, there must
01:12
be a million things running through your mind, but...
01:13
No, no, no, there was only one thing.
01:15
Only one thing, just absolute laces for it. Great strike, wasn't it?
01:18
Yeah, do you know what? I had one very similar. Last season in the Cup against, I think it
01:24
was Charlton here, like fell for me so, so perfectly. And again, as that was dropping,
01:30
yeah, there weren't a million things on my mind. I was absolutely going to batter that.
01:34
Yeah, fair play and obviously, set us on a good run for a minute and then obviously we
01:39
equalised again. I said to Rob it was so impressive from the players to bounce back from that
01:43
because at that point, surely the memories of the last few games where we've sort of
01:47
scored, obviously the Wrexham game, the Bolton games where we scored and then conceded so
01:51
quickly, it must be quite a mental challenge to overcome that and just think, right, forget
01:56
it, we need to go and get the winner now.
01:58
Yeah, but that's football. You've got to be mentally resilient. You're not going to keep
02:03
a clean sheet every single game. So when they scored, even though it was only a minute or
02:07
two after, that's football and we've got to be mentally resilient and we were. And then
02:13
to go on and get another two goals, I think that shows how strong we were tonight.
02:18
Yeah, and it's nothing more than we deserved. It's just a great feeling, isn't it, to sort
02:23
of get the monkey off of your back, is to say, I think, that we'll be thrown around
02:27
of just, we know we've got still a big challenge ahead of us, but wins like this, it felt the
02:32
same after Manchester, didn't it? Just to kickstart that sort of run that we're hoping
02:36
to put together again is huge.
02:38
Yeah, but you know what, even though we've been on the wrong end of some results recently,
02:43
like I said earlier, where we've put ourselves in such unbelievable opportunities to win
02:47
the game, you know, we're still so confident out there. We know we can turn up at any place,
02:52
home or away, any stadium in this league and do to teams what we've been practising all
02:58
week on the training field and we've all got the confidence that we can apply that to anyone
03:02
in this league.
03:03
Yeah, we are scoring goals for fun at the moment, obviously six goals in the last two
03:08
games speaks for itself.
03:09
We've had a lot more tonight as well.
03:11
Exactly, but that must give a real sense of confidence, as you say, knowing that we are
03:16
going to these places, obviously doing it at home as well, but scoring goals which is
03:20
ultimately what we're going to need to win football matches.
03:22
Yeah, no, exactly. We create a lot of opportunities and we're quite big on xG here and when you
03:30
actually analyse the xG we've created against teams where we haven't really scored as much,
03:35
I mean, we're still creating chance at the end of the day. The last few games we're starting
03:39
to put them away, but I mean, even tonight we could have scored so many more, so we've
03:43
just got to keep building on that and hopefully keep the ball out the net at the other end.
03:47
Perfect, cheers. We all know what you can do going forward, but tonight I was particularly
03:51
impressed with how good you were defensively. How much do you enjoy those sort of, because
03:55
there was a lot of tackles that you timed absolutely perfectly, how much do you enjoy
03:59
that part of the game?
04:00
I love it, honestly. Nights like tonight where there's a little bit of rain and it's a little
04:06
bit wet, you can just absolutely fly into changes and honestly I love making sliding tackles.
04:12
Yeah, and it's great just to get a result you actually really deserve as well, isn't it?
04:16
No, exactly. I mean, the spirits are so high in that dressing room now and we've got so
04:21
much momentum going into Saturday now and hopefully we can do again what we've done
04:26
on Saturday tonight.
04:27
Yeah, you've got a few games. The home games coming up, apart from Wickham on Saturday,
04:32
are all sort of teams in and around you and with results the way they've gone tonight,
04:35
you're only three points off safety, it's the perfect way to sort of kick-start that
04:39
run of home games, isn't it?
04:40
Yeah, but to be fair, I don't know about the other lads, but I'm not looking at the table
04:44
at all and even the opposition we're against, it doesn't faze any of us. It's just another
04:49
game that we've got to get past and we're not going to change for anyone really. We've
04:53
seen how we've played. We have been on the wrong end of some results, but the way we've
04:56
played in games recently, we can do what we've done against anyone, so we're not phased at all.
05:02
Thanks Harry, well answered that.
