All right, speaking of sports betting,
00:02
the numbers are going to be the biggest they ever have been.
00:04
Sam, we can do this show next year at this time,
00:06
and we'll be saying the same thing
00:08
as long as sports betting is legal in the United States.
00:11
There are more bets available, more props available,
00:14
more options available.
00:15
So I guess when we come back next week,
00:17
we will say this is the most bet Super Bowl of all time.
00:21
Will we not?
00:22
Yeah, it's shaping up to be a sure bet
00:24
that every year it's the most bet Super Bowl of all time.
00:27
This is projecting to be the seventh year straight
00:30
with record Super Bowl betting.
00:32
Obviously, legal sports betting has grown every year
00:35
since 2018 or 2015 when the Supreme Court
00:39
allowed states to kind of make the decision
00:42
whether they would legalize gambling or not.
00:43
You now have 38 states with it legal.
00:45
So this year we're expecting upwards of $15 billion
00:50
all bet on the big game.
00:51
That would be a 15% increase from last year,
00:55
which was, again, the most ever.
00:57
And last year also set a record in Nevada,
00:59
which is where the Super Bowl was played
01:01
with 186 million bet here.
01:03
LSR this year is projecting
01:05
this will be the first year on record
01:07
that Nevada is not the leading state
01:10
in Super Bowl sports betting.
01:12
This year, it's looking like it'll be New York.
01:14
We're projecting 192 million bet there.
01:17
Obviously, one of the largest sports betting markets.
01:20
New Jersey will be up in there,
01:21
and notably Florida as well.
01:22
This will be the first year.
01:24
They have available legalized sports betting.
01:26
Even though there's only one game in town
01:29
with more limited options than other apps,
01:31
people in a huge state are going to bet.
01:34
And the Super Bowl is a huge opportunity
01:35
for these sports books to get those casual bettors in.
01:39
It's the biggest day of the year for sports books.
01:41
Usually makes up about 1% of the total betting
01:44
they take in an entire year.
01:45
And if you just take that one day out of 365,
01:49
that's a pretty big feat.
01:50
They stand to win about nine figures.
01:52
But a lot of that has always depended
01:54
on the outcome of the game.
01:56
But this year, like last year,
01:58
that's becoming less and less important.
02:00
Last year, if you remember right,
02:01
the public cleaned up on the favorite winning,
02:04
on the overhitting, money line, all these bets.
02:07
But the sports books actually had a really good day
02:09
because of the popularity of these player props
02:12
and same game parlays.
02:13
And it's shaping up to be the same this year.
02:15
It looks like they've really taken kind of the data
02:17
from last year and said,
02:18
okay, how do we now package it this year
02:20
in a way that really positions us to get ahead?
02:23
So you have things like Caesars is saying,
02:26
Saquon Barkley to score a touchdown,
02:27
has more bets on it than the money line
02:30
and the spread for both teams can buy,
02:32
which is just crazy.
02:33
I know he's a touchdown machine,
02:34
but if there's more popularity
02:36
just on this one specific market for that player,
02:38
that really says a lot.
02:39
And at this sports betting tracking at Pickett,
02:42
they're saying that 66% of all bets tracked so far
02:46
are on player props,
02:47
as opposed to traditional straight up wagers.
02:50
You're seeing all the action
02:51
is really all player dependent.
02:53
And it's a good thing for the league
02:55
that wants to be more player focused,
02:57
more like the NBA where player props are popular as well.
02:59
So I'd expect more of the story this year
03:02
to be about who scored a touchdown,
03:04
who didn't score a touchdown,
03:05
who went over their passing yards or receiving yards
03:08
versus who actually won the outcome of the game
03:10
is becoming less and less important.
