00:11That's the story of our teammate Paolo Salamate.
00:16The Powerlifting Association of the Philippines' former president, Eddie Torres, plans to increase the number of competitions held by the NSA outside of the National Capital Region or NCR.
00:29This is in addition to the Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao Legs of the regional tournaments of the TAP, which are held only once a year.
00:39According to Torres, it's time to focus on giving more opportunities to the powerlifters in the province.
00:49All the competitions will be in the provinces, not in the NCR.
00:53I think in the NCR, there are a lot of competitions here. So we're trying to reach out to the kids in the provinces, and I'm sure there will be future world champions there.
01:02Torres also shared another reason behind their desire to launch more powerlifting events outside of the NCR.
01:12Like the national team in the World Junior Championships the other year, when I was the head of delegation, 8 out of 10 of the national team members were from outside the NCR.
01:25So the opportunity outside is so big, yet there's so little competition outside. So we're trying to sort of make it better, give them that extra opportunity.
01:36As of now, Torres will host 2 of the 2025 SBD Philippine Nationals from February 19 to 21 in SM North ED in Skydome.
