00:00After Rizal Day, let's go back to the lives and sacrifices of our countrymen, Dr. Jose Rizal.
00:07He not only left a deep impression on the hearts of the Filipinos,
00:11but he was also an inspiration for everyone to fight for the freedom of our country.
00:17That's right, Dianne.
00:18And this morning, let's find out how the spirit of his heroism remains in the hearts of every Filipino.
00:27We have with us now, Atty. Moses Florendo, a legal practitioner and also a history buff.
00:34Good morning. Welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines.
00:37Thank you for joining us today.
00:38Alright, Atty. Moses, what is the most important contribution of Dr. Jose Rizal to our society?
00:44As you know, Dr. Jose Rizal, as a national hero, is the most studied Filipino hero.
00:49So we can see many aspects of his life that we can consider as important.
00:55For example, his love for the country, his love for his parents, and his love for society.
01:06We remember that when he won the lottery and went to Tapitan,
01:10he used the money to support the lives of the people there.
01:14That's why his example is the best memory we have of him.
01:19Of all the things that Dr. Rizal wrote, what do you think is the most important to you right now?
01:30For me, it's Nolay Metanghera and El Filipino Historismo.
01:35Because up until now, the teachings and lessons that we learn there are very relevant.
01:40It's about society, how to treat others, how to have a good view of the country.
01:48Up until now, we learn from others.
01:50That's why it's a law that we should study.
01:54We can see the teachings there, the problems of society, history, all around.
01:59Even politics.
02:01Even with love.
02:03You can see the loyalty and fidelity towards his loved ones.
02:07There are many examples and teachings there.
02:09We can see different aspects of life there.
02:12You said earlier that Dr. Rizal is the most studied Filipino hero.
02:16What are the teachings of our countrymen?
02:19It's mixed.
02:21He studied in UST and then went to Dalobhasa as a medical practitioner.
02:26What's good about him is that he was not only content with studying in the Philippines,
02:30he also studied abroad.
02:32At that time, it was a big deal.
02:35But where did he use his studies?
02:38He served the country.
02:39His most famous patient was his mother.
02:42That's why we can see that he did his best.
02:46But he used his knowledge for good, not just for himself.
02:50That's beautiful.
02:52That's pure love and intentions.
02:54What do you think are the teachings or values of Dr. Rizal that are now included in the political status of the Philippines?
03:02In our first question, what is the most important?
03:05He wrote two things because it's very relevant.
03:08Now, in our political status, we can see in his writings that he was aware of what was happening.
03:15And maybe using the lingo of the current society, it's fake news.
03:21That's his enemy.
03:23Because he saw that those who are making the country suffer are perpetuating it because of false information,
03:30because of fear.
03:32And as a journalist, we say it now, it's fake news.
03:34That's the best teaching.
03:36He wrote about himself.
03:38He said that he has had a comfortable life.
03:40He has a rich family.
03:42He's an illustrator.
03:44He can sit down and watch the people crying and live a happy life.
03:48But he used his power for the good of his fellowmen.
03:52At his own risk, at his own expense.
03:54But as you can see, that's why he's a hero.
03:56Because he gave up everything.
03:58The good life to serve the country.
04:02What advice can you give to Rizal?
04:06To our youth.
04:08Because he believes that the youth are the hope of our country.
04:12What's your opinion, Rizal?
04:14In the current state of our country.
04:16Maybe there's no difference compared to the past.
04:18Because in the past, a lot of people believed in false information.
04:22And a lot of people were content with what they were doing.
04:26Maybe the teaching there is to give yourself.
04:28Study until you're satisfied and you can accomplish your goal.
04:34And use that for the country.
04:36Maybe that's the best teaching we can get from him.
04:38You know, Dr. Rizal died at an early age.
04:4035 years old.
04:42But at 35, he accomplished a lot in his life.
04:46He really used his time wisely.
04:48Right. And all for the benefit of everybody else.
04:51Not personal.
04:53That's true.
04:54What advice can you give to the youth who are losing interest in history?
05:05Especially to Dr. Rizal and to our fellow countrymen.
05:08Maybe, we always say,
05:10what didn't happen in the past will not happen in the future.
05:15Our past is always a guide towards our future.
05:20We're comfortable now, but what's happening is related to that.
05:23And if we don't learn, we'll repeat our past mistakes.
05:30Atty., why is it important to commemorate the anniversary of the death of our fellow countrymen every year?
05:38During this time, usually there are parties,
05:41and we avoid talking about politics or something.
05:44But it's good that we're celebrating what happened during this time, December 13.
05:52Because this is the time that we should not only celebrate, but also reflect.
05:56That day, there were Rizal Day celebrations, parades, commemorating the heroes and his life.
06:02Maybe, it's important that this event happened in his life,
06:09so that we can reflect before we enter the new year.
06:12So that we can think about what we did as citizens,
06:15before we enter the new year.
06:18What Atty. said is good.
06:20Amidst the holiday feels and the transition of the new year,
06:23this is the best time to reflect also, not only about ourselves,
06:27but also about the society of our countrymen.
06:31Especially this day, the day of our fellow countrymen, Dr. Jose Rizal.
06:36Let's ask ourselves, what did I do for the country this year?
06:40And what can I do for the Philippines in the coming months and years?
06:46Your message to our fellow countrymen of the Rizal Day commemoration.
06:50Thank you for the opportunity that you gave me.
06:52Maybe, my message is like what our fellow countrymen said,
06:56that we should reflect on ourselves and serve our countrymen.
06:59Let's look at the past as a guide for the future.
07:04Alright, thank you very much Atty. Moses Florendo for sharing your knowledge with us
07:09and watching about the life and fellowship of Dr. Jose Rizal.
07:14Long live to you.
07:15Thank you Atty. Moses and happy holidays.
07:17Happy New Year as well.
