00:00Unfortunately, though, we do begin with a news story, a tragedy here in the United States

00:04that has affected the sports world.

00:06There were figure skaters on the plane that crashed last night in Washington, D.C.

00:11I'm sure many of you have seen this in the news.

00:14The United States Figure Skating Association said that skaters were returning from a development

00:19camp that followed the U.S. Figure Skating Championships over the weekend in Wichita,

00:24Kansas, and they have confirmed that several members of the skating community were aboard

00:29American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a helicopter late last night.

00:36Sixty passengers, four crew members, naturally at this point we don't know more than that.

00:43A lot feared, of course, to have perished in this crash.

00:47Condolences, of course, from all of us here at SportsGrid, but it has affected the sports

00:51world and that is the top story on our show today.

00:54Also a story with Super Bowl security.

00:57Enhanced measures are headed to the city of New Orleans for the upcoming Super Bowl around

01:03the Dome from February the 5th through the 10th.

01:07In fact, no coolers, no ice chests allowed in the area.

01:12Bags are now down to four and a half to six and a half inches, subject to search.

01:18And also 100,000 visitors are expected to be headed to the city.

01:23There's going to be a lot more checks, Homeland Security will be in place.

01:27Here are some of the new security measures as described by the governor of Louisiana,

01:32Jeff Landry.

01:33Now, this is in addition to the enhanced security zone that is around the Super Dome, which

01:39is controlled by the Department of Homeland Security in conjunction with the NFL.

01:45It's important for the public to understand that there are two different enhanced security

01:49zones and that they have different restrictions in each.

01:56The checkpoint in the French Quarter enhanced security zone, there will be checkpoints that

02:05are set up at each entry.

02:08To prevent and deter the introduction of any destructive explosive materials, coolers and

02:15ice chests of any kind will be prohibited in our enhanced security zone.

02:23So in the French Quarter, coolers and ice chests will be prohibited.

02:30Any bags or containers larger than four and a half inches by six and a half inches, which

02:36is basically the size of a lady's clutch, are subject to search by law enforcement prior

02:44to entering the enhanced security zone.

02:47Meanwhile, we're at the end of the week and the Super Bowl is almost upon us and the New

02:52Orleans Saints still do not have a head coach in the NFL, which is a little bizarre.

02:58But Kellen Moore has reportedly been viewed as a name to potentially watch.

03:01He is the offensive coordinator of the Eagles.

03:04This is according to a report from NFL Network.

03:08Moore right now preparing for the Super Bowl.

03:10Saints still do not have a coach.

03:12Steve Wilks, former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, has agreed to be the defensive

03:17coordinator of the New York Jets.

03:19And the Raiders are expected to stick with Patrick Graham as their defensive coordinator

03:24with Pete Carroll coming on board.

03:26In the NBA, Adam Silver talking ahead of the upcoming All-Star game and trade deadline

03:31said on Wednesday that he likes the idea of shortening the games themselves to 40 minutes

03:37going to 10-minute quarters instead of 12.

03:41Interesting.

03:42We'll see if that ends up happening.

03:43LaMelo Ball is going to be out at least one week due to an ankle sprain.

03:46He's having a great year.

03:4728 points per game.

03:48Shea Gilgis-Alexander had a game to remember, folks, and we've said that so many times this

03:52season.

03:53The overwhelming favorite for the Most Valuable Player Award scored 52 points yesterday, yet

03:59the Warriors lost, or excuse me, the Thunder lost to the Warriors 116-109.

04:05Steph Curry had 21 points.

04:07Steve Kerr glowing about his team, but also did mention the performance from SGA.

04:11Well, we battled.

04:12That was the main thing.

04:14And Shea, he's incredible.

04:16I mean, everyone knows that, and he's impossible to guard.

04:22So he did his thing, but I thought the second half we were much more disciplined, didn't

04:29give up much easy stuff, and they only made nine threes, which was a huge part of the

04:36game.

04:37They missed some open ones.

04:38All in all, I just thought our second half intensity, the way everybody scrapped out

04:45there, every single guy who came on the floor just scrapped and gave us great minutes.

04:51I could go up and down the roster, but it was kind of a vet game.

04:56Loon, Gary, Kyle, Wiggs, all these guys just came through.

05:01Dennis was amazing second half, especially defensively.

05:06So our guys came up big against, you know, best team in the league.

05:10So great win.

05:13Great win for the Warriors.

05:14We'll see if they can build on it.

05:15Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets fall to 0-3 on their five-game road trip.

05:18They lose to the Knicks.

05:19Jalen Brunson had 30 points, 122-112 the final, certainly a big win for head coach Tom Thibodeau

05:25who talked about getting the victory, and so did Mike Malone, talked about the loss.

05:29We were missing some good shots, but once we got our defense going, I think that's what

05:36turned it.

05:37And our ball pressure, forcing turnovers, getting into the open floor, the play that

05:43OG made with Josh, a great hustle play, but that sort of got us going, and then we picked

05:49up the tempo.

05:50We were able to go off a live ball, and I think we had 25 fast break points, and that

05:57was a turning point.

05:58So you got to win games different ways.

06:00I didn't like the rebounding in the first half, second half better, but our hustle really

06:06is what got us going.

06:07I think the big stat for me tonight is the turnovers, 20-point differential.

06:11They scored 23 points off our mistakes.

06:14We only scored three off of theirs.

06:17And to beat that team in this arena in front of that crowd, and you spot them 20 points

06:22off mistakes, it's going to be really hard to overcome, which led to the 25 fast break

06:28points.

06:29But yeah, better fight, better effort, just got to be a little bit cleaner.

06:36Right now, it would appear that the NBA is going to be all over Victor Wembayama after

06:40his comments last night.

06:42Kawhi Leonard, big fourth quarter as the Clippers beat Wemby and the Spurs, 128-116.

06:49But Wemby involved in a little scuffle, shoved to the court from behind by Zubats.

06:53Wemby got up, ran after the Clippers center.

06:55He was held back by the Spurs.

06:58Needless to say, Wemby doesn't seem to be feeling like the calls by the refs are going

07:03his way.

07:04Do you get a fair whistle most nights in terms of people being physical with you?

07:11No.

07:12So, it's a hard thing to fight because it feels unfair sometimes, you know, but of course

07:30we talk about it with the staff and there is some stuff I have to do to help myself,

07:38you know.

07:39First of all, you know, being strong and not bailing out shots, but also, you know, there

07:46is some work to do like talking to the refs, of course, explaining myself.

07:51But it's, you know, for me it doesn't feel like it's something I should influence, you

07:59know.

08:00It's like I'm a basketball player, like I'm here to play.

08:03And this is, yeah, that's why it's frustrating, you know, it's not my job to do politics.

08:11Wemby going a little bit further than anyone thought post-game yesterday.

08:15Chris Tapp's Porzingis huge game last night for the Celtics.

08:18He had 34 points.

08:20They beat the Bulls 122-100.

08:22Donovan Mitchell also had 34 points.

08:24The Cavs never trail in their 126-106 win against the Heat.

08:28By the way, the Cavs are now 33-0 when leading after three quarters.

08:33And Anthony Edwards had 33 points as well.

08:35The Gibrals beat the Suns 121-113.
