00:00
Hey, was the results of a lot of the elections going on across the country.
00:08
I'm sure you are aware of that, but maybe you weren't aware of some of these sports
00:13
betting laws that are now going into effect and another potential one that we could be
00:18
headed for.
00:19
So we wanted to start off the show with that.
00:20
We'll begin not with Missouri.
00:22
We know Missouri is now legalized sports betting and on December 1st, it looks like it will
00:26
launch.
00:27
Now let's get to the latest in Colorado, where taxes have been a big subject of debate
00:32
in Colorado as to whether or not the state is going to be able to levy higher taxes on
00:38
their constituents, people who were betting on sports and the sports books.
00:41
Well, the answer is a resounding yes.
00:44
More than 75% of the votes in Colorado approved a new bill.
00:48
Proposition JJ will allow the Rocky Mountain State to retain more than the previous limit
00:55
of $29 million in Colorado sports tax revenue.
00:58
So had that not passed, the government would need to return any excess tax revenue to sports
01:03
books and their casinos.
01:05
But with this new amendment, they can now charge more than the $29 million that was
01:10
there.
01:11
Very similar to what we see all across the country with sports betting on the rise in
01:16
New York, in Pennsylvania, in Ohio, and the sports rate changing in terms of what you
01:20
could charge for tax.
01:21
We're now going to see the same thing in Colorado, which is good news for their state
01:26
and really doesn't change anything unless the sports books decide to charge more juice,
01:31
which hopefully they don't as a result of this.
01:33
Now another story that seems to be percolating on the legalization of sports betting also
01:38
came out late yesterday and today is the state of Minnesota getting ready to legalize sports
01:45
betting.
01:46
It certainly seems more possible than ever before.
01:48
One of the remaining 10 or so states that don't have it, while the Running Aces Casino,
01:54
one of the Indian tribe casinos, released a statement yesterday that they are in favor
01:59
of legalizing sports betting in Minnesota.
02:02
So naturally there's a lot of different things that could happen with this.
02:04
It could run directly through the tribes, it could run throughout the state.
02:08
But stay tuned to this one because there certainly seems to be a chance that in the next six
02:14
months, maybe even before the Super Bowl, we could hear about yet another state legalizing
02:19
sports betting, which is really good news for everyone across the country that they
02:22
don't have to go offshore.
02:24
All right, let's get to tonight's Thursday night football game.
02:27
The Ravens tonight have already ruled out one of their tight ends.
02:30
That's Isaiah Likely.
02:32
He's out of the game tonight.
02:33
Doubtful he was going in.
02:35
The Bengals, by the way, are six and a half point underdogs.
02:38
Tee Higgins not going to play in this one as well for Cincinnati, eight o'clock Eastern
02:42
start.
02:43
How about a little piece of news from the National Football League that was unexpected.
02:46
Chuba Hubbard, a running back in the NFL, gets guaranteed money.
02:51
Wow.
02:52
Four years, $33.2 million.
02:54
Congrats to Chuba Hubbard.
02:55
Panthers obviously see him more part of the future.
02:58
Hubbard, as you may recall, replaced Christian McCaffrey in the starting lineup when he was
03:02
traded a couple of years ago.
03:04
Also they're going to start Bryce Young this week at quarterback.
03:07
That's not a surprise as well.
03:08
The Dallas Cowboys certainly are going to have to make a decision on Dak Prescott over
03:12
the next couple of days.
03:13
They have yet to place him on injured reserve, but it looks like he's going to be out potentially
03:17
for the rest of the season with a hamstring pulled off his bone.
03:20
Yikes.
03:21
That does not sound good.
03:22
Dak Prescott not going to play anytime soon.
03:24
Cooper Rush looks like he's going to start indefinitely for the Cowboys.
03:28
And also the Saints' Chris Olave, ahead of their game this week, is going to see some
03:32
specialists about his concussions.
03:33
He suffered concussions in two of the last three weeks.
03:37
All right.
03:38
Results in college football.
03:39
Last night, Ohio covers 19 and a half point spread.
03:41
It was not a close game.
03:42
They beat Kent State 41-0.
03:45
Northern Illinois beats Western Michigan 42-28.
03:48
Now in tonight's action, Appalachian State, their one and a half point favorites against
03:52
Coastal Carolina.
03:53
Florida Atlantic are on the road, underdogs at East Carolina.
03:58
And how about this?
03:59
SMU's had a great college football season.
04:01
Right on the outside looking in of the college football playoff, they get a big commitment.
04:05
Matt Leinart's son, Cole Leinart, is going to be headed to play for the Mustangs coming
04:10
up next season.
04:11
In the NBA last night, in the Western Conference, not many people thought the Golden State Warriors
04:17
would be the hottest team to start the season, but folks, they have been it.
04:20
The Warriors beat the Celtics last night, 118-112.
04:24
They were seven point underdogs on the road in Boston.
04:28
Steph Curry had 27 points, nine rebounds, or nine assists, seven rebounds.
04:32
Boston now seven and two.
04:34
Golden State with a better record than them at seven and one.
04:37
Steve Kerr, after the game, discussed how it has been the little minutes from the role
04:42
players that has been big, and also Jason Tatum certainly disappointed.
04:47
For the first time all season, it looked like the Celtics were handled.
04:52
In theory, we should be able to, if we're playing a bunch of guys 15 to 22 minutes,
04:59
they should be able to go all out during those minutes, and I think we're getting that.
05:04
Tonight was probably the first game.
05:05
We had three guys over 30 minutes, so the game settled into a more traditional NBA game
05:12
down the stretch.
05:13
We had Wiggs, Draymond, and Steph out there all playing big minutes, but I thought Gary
05:19
and Buddy just tag teaming offense, defense, and then Loon, he's made so many big plays
05:24
for us over the years.
05:25
I thought his minutes were just massive down the stretch.
05:30
I think they just did a good job of being more physical, and obviously they were blitzing
05:36
all of the ball screens I came off, and we weren't, or I speak for myself, a little rushed
05:42
in the first half, and I think in the second half just accepted it and played with more
05:47
patience and made the right read more often than not.
05:51
Boston falls to 7-2 on the season.
05:53
You know who would take that record?
05:54
It's the Philadelphia 76ers, folks.
05:56
They're 1-6 to start the season.
05:59
They lost to the Clippers last night, 1-10 to 98.
06:01
Joellen Bede's still out for a couple of more games.
06:04
How about the best team in the NBA this season?
06:06
It's the Cleveland Cavaliers.
06:07
They're now 9-0.
06:08
They beat the Pelicans 1-31 to 1-22, one of the more high-scoring games we saw this week.
06:14
Also, LeBron James, ageless wonder.
06:16
How about last night?
06:17
39 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, but the Grizzlies did beat the Lakers 1-31 to 1-14.
06:23
AD, Anthony Davis did not play in this game.
06:26
All right, first week of college basketball coming close to a close.
06:29
UConn last night beat Sacred Heart 92-56.
06:32
Alex Caravan, 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists.
06:37
Gotta say, unusual to see the new coach on the sidelines for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
06:43
John Calipari wins his first game as the head coach at Arkansas.
06:48
Final score, 76-60.
06:51
They actually beat a pretty good team, Lipscomb University, known for throwing up a lot of threes
06:55
and running all over the place.
06:57
Calipari, after the game, talked about overcoming that challenge.
07:01
That is a very, very hard game to play out of the gate, because you gotta be disciplined
07:06
and you better be in shape, because they're gonna run you for 25 seconds, and then we
07:10
play fast and pressure.
07:13
So we had guys exhausted with three minutes into the game.
07:19
I come back to, defensively, we did some good things, but we had to create a gap by creating
07:26
turnovers.
07:27
Well, against good teams, you're not gonna just go create a turnover.
07:30
You can't.
07:31
How about this thought?
07:33
Make a three.
07:36
How about that thought?
07:37
You make 7 or 8 today, you get 3 or 4 more today, I want you to think of the score.
07:46
And we had 19 threes.
07:48
I'm glad we didn't shoot more, because we'd have missed more.
07:51
But we are, the good news is, we threw the ball inside today and we did some good stuff.
07:57
So we know we can do it.
08:00
Weird seeing the Razorbacks logo behind Calipari, I gotta be honest.
08:03
Creighton last night beat Texas Rio Grande, that's not the story.
08:07
The story is Ryan Kalkbrenner had 49 points on 20 for 22 shooting.
08:13
Creighton beats UT Rio Grande, 99-86.
08:17
I'm guessing they did not cover that spread.
08:19
Auburn also beat Vermont, 94-43, they did cover that spread.
08:23
All right, in baseball news, the general manager meeting's wrapping up in San Antonio this
08:27
week.
08:28
We'll get the news out of there.
08:29
We'll give them to you.
08:30
An extension for Mike Schilt, he'll be the manager of the Padres through 2027.
08:35
Mookie Betts likely to play second base or shortstop.
08:39
Brandon Gomes, their general manager, told the media yesterday.
08:43
And Wilson Contreras is going from catcher to first base.
