02:16University students are staging a 24-hour blockade in the Serbian capital of Belgrade

02:25in protest against a deadly canopy collapse that killed 15 people in November.

02:33Officers have demanded political accountability over the accident, blaming corruption and

02:37mismanagement for the poor reconstruction of the canopy.

02:42The students converged on the auto-commander junction, which connects intersecting roads

02:47leading from the centre of the city to suburban areas.

02:51In a press conference on Monday afternoon, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic urged dialogue

02:57with the students, who have so far refused to speak to him, claiming the unrest is negatively

03:02impacting the country.

03:21The government has taken steps to address some of the students' demands, including declassifying

03:27certain documents related to the Novi Sad collapse, which occurred shortly after the

03:32station was renovated by Chinese state companies.

03:35Vucic has also said he is willing to pardon protesters who want to avoid criminal prosecution,

03:42adding that the public prosecutor's office has initiated criminal proceedings against

03:4737 people after cars rammed into protesting students on two separate occasions.

03:58Germany's migration debate has once again been thrown into the spotlight after a man

04:03and child were killed in a knife attack by a former Afghan asylum seeker who had been

04:08told to leave the country.

04:11The incident in Aschaffenburg, occurring just weeks before Germany's parliamentary elections,

04:17has prompted opposition parties to leverage the attack as a platform to advocate for their

04:22stricter migration policies.

04:26Leader of the centre-right CDU party, Friedrich Merz, has already vowed to impose immediate

04:32border controls if he becomes chancellor, fuelling the debate with his statement that

04:37he did not care which political party the union's proposal received a majority from,

04:42even if it was the far-right AfD.

04:46Although Merz has claimed he does not want votes from the AfD, left-wing parties fear

04:52Merz's rhetoric implies his party could be open to collaboration with the far-right.

05:05Meanwhile, the ruling SPD party is reintroducing draft legislation on migration and security

05:11to the Bundestag, something it had previously failed to do due to opposition from the CDU.

05:22But with just four weeks to go and a growing wave of discontent pushing voters to the right,

05:39SPD Chancellor Olaf Scholz is rapidly running out of time to win over the electorate.

05:47Weather warnings have been issued in parts of Spain, Portugal, France, the UK and Ireland

05:53as Storm Herminia batters countries across Europe with strong winds, heavy rain and powerful

05:59waves.

06:01Hurricane-force winds have been recorded across almost all of Spain, with the Galicia region

06:07feeling the worst effects.

06:10One person has died and more than 1,200 incidents have been reported to the emergency services

06:16in the region, while more than 13,000 people have been left without electricity.

06:22In France, eight regions are under orange weather warnings, while the region of Île-et-Velaine

06:28is now under a red warning.

06:31Flooding has forced families in Île-et-Velaine to evacuate and the water level is still rising.

06:40Meanwhile, in the UK, Devon and Cornwall remain under a yellow weather warning and more than

06:541,000 properties in the south-west are still without power.

07:00Holocaust survivors warned of rising anti-Semitism as they gathered in southern Poland to commemorate

07:09the 80th anniversary of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.

07:13Given the age and frailty of the survivors, some believe it could be the last time they

07:17met at the site to mark the day Soviet troops liberated the camp.

07:22The organisers therefore decided to make the survivors the central focus and asked politicians

07:27not to speak on stage.

07:29We have an obligation not only to remember, which is very, very important, but also to warn

07:42and to teach that hatred only begets more hatred, killing more killing.

07:50Many of the speakers warned the audience about the dangers of rising anti-Semitism, saying

07:55it was such hatred that led the Nazis to kill millions of Jews in World War II.

08:00German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier criticised recent remarks made by billionaire Elon Musk,

08:05who denounced Germany for putting too much focus on past guilt at an AFD election rally

08:10over the weekend.

08:11Steinmeier said that Auschwitz stood for murders planned and meticulously prepared by Germans,

08:16which the nation does not forget.

08:18But it is now up to us, our generations, to pass on their warnings and expectations to the next generations.

08:31And I say as German President, we in Germany, we do not forget.

08:41Other world leaders who travelled to Auschwitz for the ceremony included Ukrainian President

08:46Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

08:56Israel claims to have killed two Hamas members in a strike which targeted a vehicle in the

09:01West Bank city of Tulkarem, according to local reports.

09:06The attack was confirmed by the Israeli Air Force on Monday, which said it had eliminated

09:11Hamas member Ihab Abu Atiwi alongside another unnamed member of the group.

09:17The two men were killed as Israel's large-scale military raid in Jenin continued into its

09:22seventh day, in addition to a new raid reported in Tulkarem on Monday.

09:32For 33 years, the Grand Christmas Charity Orchestra has united Poles in a common cause.

09:39Collecting hundreds of millions in medical relief to bring help to those who need it the most.

09:59It is thanks to this initiative that many Polish hospitals have been able to receive funding

10:03for life-saving medical equipment.

10:08I think it's worth helping. I was in an accident and when I woke up, I saw a heart machine.

10:15I said that as soon as I could, I would go and collect it. It's the sixth time now.

10:23Donors receive heart stickers in return for their donations.

10:27This year's campaign involves hundreds of thousands of volunteers in Poland and abroad in 23 countries.

10:39We dressed up as children to collect as much as possible.

10:44I see this equipment in hospitals. When my children were born, they also used this equipment.

10:51The Grand Christmas Charity Orchestra is not only about street collections.

10:55It consists of concerts, workshops and fairs.

10:58We all want to help. I see a lot of equipment in hospitals, which was funded by the orchestra.

11:07So I've been helping for 33 years.

11:11The Grand Christmas Charity Orchestra has become a part of Polish culture,

11:14and the red hearts have become a symbol of support for those in need.

11:18Celebrities, politicians and people from different backgrounds take part in the campaign every year.

11:23Organizers hope that, as in the previous year, they will be able to break another record.
