While the world gets ready for Valentine’s Day romance, flower farms in Ecuador are busy prepping for bloom season. Demand for Ecuador’s famous roses is soaring in Europe and the U.S.

00:05twice as busy at Ecuador's Quito airport, as it struggles to meet international demand

00:10for their country's famous flowers.

00:12There is a lack of movement due to the Valentine's Day celebration.

00:18Our main commercial partners, the United States and Europe, have the good habit of receiving

00:25In 2024, Ecuador exported 26,000 metric tons of flowers, mostly to the U.S. and Europe,

00:40setting records at Quito airport.

00:42Ecuador's government says flowers, and famously, roses, are among its main exports.

00:48Workers at a Quito-based floriculture company select the tallest, prettiest roses for export.

01:03They say their size makes them the best.

01:18Demand for these roses continues to grow, just like the flowers themselves.

01:23Airport forecasts predict 3 to 5 percent growth in demand in 2025 alone.
