00:22
In Belarus, exit polls show candidate and current president Alexander Lukashenko as
00:26
the winner with 87.6% of the vote.
00:33
In the United States, authorities reported at least 11 people killed as a result of a
00:37
severe cold wave that hit the southeastern regions.
00:45
Hello and welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana,
00:49
Cuba.
00:50
We begin with the news.
01:08
In Palestine, Israeli occupation forces broke the ceasefire agreement and opened fire on
01:13
a number of displaced people preparing to return to the north of the Gaza Strip.
01:17
Witnesses say the Israeli army opened fire at the last exit point on Salah al-Din and
01:23
al-Rashid streets, which connects the south and the north of the Gaza Strip.
01:28
Hamas confirmed that the occupation has been delaying the implementation of the terms of
01:32
the agreement and the exchange of prisoners by preventing the return of the displaced.
01:37
The Palestinian Resistance Movement also warned that recent Israeli actions threaten to resume
01:42
large-scale aggressions in the occupied Palestinian territory.
01:49
And in Palestine, Israeli forces maintain blockades to prevent the return of displaced
01:54
people to their homes in the northern regions of the Gaza Strip.
01:58
Thousands of displaced Palestinians, many of them families with small children, are waiting
02:03
for the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the so-called Net Zarin corridor
02:08
to return to their homes in Gaza City and the north of the coastal enclave.
02:12
Witnesses denounce the continued presence of Israeli troops in the area as a violation
02:17
of the terms of a ceasefire agreement, which came into force on Sunday, January 19.
02:22
According to data published by the authorities, some 1.6 million displaced people are currently
02:28
sheltering in overcrowded camps and tents, struggling to survive in the midst of the
02:33
current humanitarian crisis.
02:40
The United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East denounced Israeli orders
02:44
to vacate the UN facilities in Jerusalem and cease its operations in the territory before
02:50
January 30.
02:51
The agency detailed that this measure contradicts the obligations contemplated in international
02:56
law since Israel belongs to the UN and must respect its provisions, including the creation
03:01
and ban that is given to UNHWA.
03:03
It also affirmed that the property of the UN cannot be subject to deconfiscation by
03:08
any state and that the personnel working for the institution must be respected.
03:13
In this sense, UNHWA warned that the Israeli authority puts at risk the buildings and the
03:17
UN staff working to guarantee the protection of Palestinian refugees.
03:28
Meanwhile in Lebanon, Israeli forces killed at least three civilians and injured 31 others
03:33
as people sought to return to their homes in the south of the country.
03:36
The Lebanese Public Health Ministry reported that the victims were from Hula, Leda and
03:41
Aytaroun, areas still occupied by the Sarni's army.
03:45
The 60-day deadline set by the agreement for Israel to complete its withdrawal from Lebanese
03:50
territory expired on Sunday.
03:52
However, the extremist government of Benjamin Netanyahu said it would not pull out in time
03:57
its forces, which have remained in Lebanon since the invasion launched on October 1st,
04:04
2024.
04:06
U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the lifting of the veto on the supply of aerial bombs
04:12
to Israel approved by the administration of former President Joe Biden.
04:16
According to media, the Trump administration ordered the Pentagon to suspend the decree
04:20
that prohibits the supply of 2,000-pound bombs to the Zionist regime.
04:25
Likewise, sources clarified that in the next few days, at least 1,800 Mk-84-class aerial
04:31
bombs that are in warehouses in the country will be loaded on ships and delivered to Israel.
04:37
On their side, the Israeli forces repeated to the borders of the Gaza Strip, although
04:42
they remained within its limits after reaching a ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian
04:46
movement Hamas on January 15th.
04:52
The Syrian civil defense reported that six civilians were injured by the explosion of
04:56
mines and bombs left over from the war in rural areas of the northern province of Idlib.
05:02
Four youths were injured when a mine exploded while they were removing debris from their
05:06
home in southern Idlib.
05:08
Likewise, the two minors were injured in two separate explosions of a grenade and a closer
05:13
bomb, respectively, in the municipality of Areha.
05:17
Civil defense reported that more than 30 people were killed and over 40 injured between late
05:21
2024 and early 2025 in explosions of the objects left over from the armed conflict
05:27
that erupted in 2011.
05:29
The current scenario makes it difficult for displaced people to return to their homes
05:33
and for agricultural land to be developed.

05:59
Exit polls show Belarusian candidate and current president Alexander Lukashenko as the winner
06:03
with 87.6% of the vote.
06:05
After the closing of polling stations and five days of early elections, the electoral
06:09
authorities announced a turnout of more than 81% of the electoral roll.
06:14
The elections have been counted with the presence of some 486 international observers
06:20
from 48 countries, in addition to 800 journalists, national and foreign, covering the day, which
06:26
ran smoothly.
06:32
Also on Sunday amid the presidential elections in Belarus, incumbent President Alexander
06:36
Lukashenko expressed his interest in maintaining cooperative relations with Venezuela and other
06:41
Latin American countries.
06:43
While thousands of citizens went to the polls this January 26th to vote for the next president
06:47
of Belarus, speaking at a press conference after having cast his ballot, Belarusian President
06:53
Alexander Lukashenko, in answering a question from our special envoy Oleg Yatsensky, said
06:58
that Belarus seeks to diversify its economy and develop relations with Latin American
07:03
nations.
07:04
Lukashenko highlighted the importance of the relationship with Venezuela and recalled it
07:08
is a legacy of the government of Commander Hugo Chavez.
07:13
Our relationship with Venezuela was forged under Hugo Chavez's presidency.
07:20
I've mentioned this before, that we built a tractor plant, an automobile factory, a
07:25
brick factory, because all of that was needed for what followed which was building entire
07:29
cities, towns and more.
07:31
That was Hugo Chavez's request through then Foreign Affairs Minister, Nicolas Maduro.
07:36
So, we are interested in continuing that relationship with Venezuela.
07:39
Recently, a delegation from our government toured the Caribbean, including Venezuela,
07:45
Nicaragua and Cuba.
07:46
We have common ground with these countries and we will continue to develop what we have
07:50
already started.
07:51
Belarusian President Lukashenko told reporters that he looks forward to a cooperative relationship
07:59
with the United States because of its influence in the world.
08:06
We do not expect any gifts from the U.S., but we want to cooperate with them.
08:10
We understand that it is still a leading country in the world, which seriously influences the
08:14
economy of Belarus, our union with Russia, the economy of China, that it influences all
08:20
countries.
08:21
Why should we quarrel?
08:24
On Sunday, Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico said Ukraine's joining the North Atlantic
08:28
Treaty Organization and the European Union is unlikely.
08:32
The Slovakian Premier criticized the leadership of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky,
08:37
suggesting that Kiev's opposition to a ceasefire with Russia has prolonged the conflict.
08:42
Fico lamented that Ukraine sees its NATO membership as the best guarantee for reaching a ceasefire
08:47
agreement with Russia rather than engaging in dialogue.
08:50
Russia has repeatedly expressed its readiness to engage in peace talks and has stressed
08:55
the importance of having a neutral and demilitarized Ukraine for security in the region.
09:03
Italian railroad workers went on a general strike this Sunday to demand better salaries
09:10
and other labor rights.
09:11
The strike also denounced an increase in the workload and reductions in salary, rest and
09:16
free time.
09:17
In this context, the trade unions claimed that for decades jobs have been downsized
09:22
and production and service facilities closed.
09:25
Among the personnel involved in this measure are maintenance workers, train drivers, conductors
09:30
and staff of the state railway group's operation rooms.
09:38
In France, a poll showed that President Emmanuel Macron lost popularity among French citizens.
09:43
Discontent with the president's work grew since the mass protests of the Yellow Vest
09:47
movement against the fuel tax hike.
09:50
Polls showed that 79 percent of those interviewed reject President Emmanuel Macron's administration.
09:55
This is two years before the end of his term.
09:58
France faces a political crisis marked by instability due to the handling of anti-government
10:03
protests, migratory measures, division in parliament, among others.
10:11
In Australia, two historic statues have been damaged in Melbourne ahead of Australia Day
10:16
celebrations on Sunday, with tens of thousands of people across the country joining protests
10:20
in support of indigenous groups who say the date should be relabeled as Invasion Day,
10:26
The statue of colonist John Batman, one of the founders of the country's second-largest
10:30
city, but also involved in the killing of indigenous people, was sewn in half, whereas
10:36
other monuments, this time commemorating Australian soldiers in the First World War, was dubbed
10:40
in red paint and the world's Land Back.
10:44
Australia's National Day is observed on January 26th as a date of mourning for many
10:48
indigenous Australians, for it marks the day Captain James Cook landed in Sydney Cove,
10:54
those during the country's colonisation by the British.
11:24
You just can't stop resisting, that's not a choice, because if you do that you're complicit.
11:54
Welcome back.
12:12
On Sunday, U.S. authorities reported at least 11 people killed as a result of a severe cold
12:17
wave that hit the southeastern region of the country.
12:21
The deaths were recorded in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Texas and South Carolina,
12:25
most of them due to hypothermia and car accidents following landslides on the highways.
12:31
In New Orleans, Louisiana and parts of the state of Florida, the cold storm brought the
12:36
heaviest snowfall recorded in the last 130 years.
12:41
In this sense, we offer this issue an extreme cold warning from the state of Mississippi
12:46
to the Florida panhandle.
12:52
Mexico prepares a shelter in Tijuana to receive Mexicans deported from the United States due
12:57
to Donald Trump's new policies.
13:00
Authorities from the three levels of government visited the shelter facility in the city and
13:05
so brought forward an emergency meeting on the escalation of the conflict.
13:14
Look at how everyone is in disarray this morning.
13:17
We're suffering a lot.
13:19
People are fleeing everywhere, and we don't know where to go anymore, because we started
13:23
fleeing a long time ago.
13:27
I fled from Kiwanja, Ruchiru, Kibomba.
13:30
I've never stopped fleeing.
13:33
And even today, the war catches us here among the host families, now we have nowhere to
13:38
go.
13:39
Now, if the situation deteriorates any further, I'm not going to flee again.
13:44
I'm tired of fleeing, and I have nowhere else to go.
13:47
We abandoned our villages to come here to Goma.
13:50
And even here, people started to flee.
13:52
Where are we going to take refuge now?
13:54
All the roads are closed.
13:55
We thought we could even cross the lake, but there too it's not safe.
13:59
We have nowhere to go.
14:01
In India, celebrate the 76th anniversary of Republic Day with parades representing military
14:09
might and cultural diversity.
14:11
President Durapati Burmu, Prime Minister Narayana Modi, and his cabinet accompanied the event
14:17
that showcased the nation's traditional dances.
14:19
The main ceremony was attended by the head of state of Indonesia, Rabowo Subianto, who
14:25
arrived in the country to join the celebration.
14:29
During the ceremony, tribute was paid to Indian martyrs at the National War Memorial.
14:33
The Air Force deployed at least 22 fighter jets and seven helicopters as one of the closing
14:37
shows of the anniversary parade.
14:40
Like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
