Israel raids in Jenin camp as evacuations continue

The ceasefire in Gaza has now held for six days. As soon as it began, Israel launched a wave of military raids in the occupied West Bank - centered on the city of Jenin.  The UN says at least 12 Palestinians have been killed since Tuesday. Our correspondent Noor Harazeen reports.

00:00The iron wall operation began with the evacuation of entire neighborhoods in the Jenin camp,

00:06home to more than 11,000 refugees crammed into less than half square kilometers.

00:13The densely populated camp is one of 19 Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank.

00:20Israeli Defense Forces, the IDF, and the security forces, Shin Bet, have displaced hundreds

00:26of residents in what Israel calls an anti-terror operation.

00:32Camp residents have been without water, electricity, communication networks, and the internet.

00:38The Israeli defense minister said that the army is applying lessons learned in Gaza.

00:44As in Gaza, many of those in harm's way are women and children.

00:50All night long there was shelling and bombing.

00:53Our homes are full of scared children.

00:55We were terrified.

00:56They're doing to us exactly the same thing they did in Gaza, with displacement, exiling,

01:01and threats to blow up the camp.

01:04The army sent threatening messages to people to evacuate the camp.

01:08Since yesterday, we have refused to leave our homes.

01:15Israeli forces surrounded the only government hospital in Jenin, reportedly blocking hospital

01:21entrances with sandbags, detaining more than 200 people in the hospital yard, and preventing

01:28ambulances from answering emergency calls.

01:32Murad Khamaisa is an ambulance driver.

01:35He confirmed that the raid at the hospital is still underway.

01:40He says ambulance crews cannot retrieve the camps injured without the risk of being shot

01:45by the Israeli army.

01:47But Israeli forces are now permitting evacuations.

01:51The siege on all areas of the camp and on the hospitals is still ongoing.

01:56Only now have the military allowed people to evacuate the camp, and they created a specific

02:01route for us to evacuate the camp for people and for the ambulances.

02:06Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz pledged that the Israeli army would continue what

02:11he calls counterterrorism raids in the Jenin camp.

02:16Other West Bank cities have also been targets in the Operation Iron Wall.

02:21The governments of Jordan and Iraq have condemned the raids.
