00:05in the markets in Metro Manila are on the move.

00:07This is to find out if the maximum suggested retail price for imported rice will be met.

00:14Denise Osorio is back.

00:18The plan is to lower the maximum suggested retail price or MSRP per kilo of imported rice

00:24according to the Department of Agriculture.

00:26After a week of implementation of MSRP for the sale of imported rice,

00:31the DA, Department of Trade and Industry and Manila City LGU

00:36conducted a price monitoring in Cartimar Market, Pasay City.

00:39According to DA Secretary Francis Tew Laurel,

00:42it is important to see if the rice is being followed by MSRP

00:46and if it is effective for the buyers.

00:49This is the real plan.

00:51Right now, it's at 58.

00:53It looks like many are following.

00:55Some are not.

00:56But by February 5, it will be 55 already.

01:00Then by February 15, we will lower it to 52.

01:04With the hope that by March 1,

01:07hopefully, we will break 50 and MSRP will be 49

01:11as long as world prices remain as is today.

01:16Tew Laurel added that it is possible to implement the sale of rice for all

01:20in supermarkets and convenience stores in March 1, 2025

01:24after discussing the spread of rice for all in other establishments.

01:29They'll sort out the details and come up with a plan,

01:33a more concrete plan.

01:35Then there will be a third meeting with me on how this will be implemented.

01:40Hopefully, this will be implemented by March 1.

01:46Meanwhile, new labeling rules will be issued by the DA

01:50to avoid overpricing.

01:52Special, premium, and fancy items will be removed

01:56and it will be a requirement to include specific and complete details
