Bristol Hippodrome team raise vital funds for The Children’s Hospice South West

The team are both running the marathon this year with the whole Bristol hippodrome team behind them with the goal of raising vital funds for the charity that is so close to their hearts, both personally and as a team

00:00So, it's quite a unique story, really. Sad, but also unique in the fact that I have quite

00:09a small team, and yet two colleagues within that team have had the help of Children's

00:15Hospice South West due to tragic circumstances in their lives. The Hippodrome works with

00:23a number of charities each year. We have a small group of charities that we work very

00:27closely with, and it just happens that Children's Hospice South West was one of the charities

00:33we were already working with, and then we found that we had this additional personal

00:38connection with it as well, and it was just a moment of madness. Me and Jo were in the

00:44office just having a cup of tea. I think it was you, Jo, that just went, shall we do the

00:49London meet?

00:50Oh, my goodness. What have your colleagues been saying? Have they been cheering you on

00:56and supporting you through all this training, I'm guessing?

01:00They've been amazing. I don't think we could actually do it without them. I mean, they're

01:04organising lots of extra fundraising. So, for example, they've had a bake sale over

01:11Christmas and Helen, sales assistant, is going to be cutting her hair off this week as part

01:19of the fundraising, which is an amazing thing to be doing. So, everyone is joining in and

01:25supporting us. So, that keeps us going as well, because you don't want to let these

01:28people down.

01:29We're getting support from all quarters, but it's the team at the Hippodrome that are really

01:33kind of driving this. So, it kind of frees myself and Jo up to get on with the training

01:38without having the additional worry of trying to raise funds as well, because that's why

01:44we're doing it. And like Jo has said, we did the bake sale at Christmas time when we had

01:50the panto, and our modern day Rapunzel is going to have her hair cut off at the end

01:55of this week.

01:56So, there's kind of a double story there.
