Bristol beacon refurbishment: The true costs!

The refurbishment was estimated to have cost 183 million pounds as part of their new development, and has since seen many famous faces enjoying the venue.

00:00In November 2023, Bristol Beacon officially opened. The once-in-a-generation transformation

00:07after many years of the building formerly known as the Colston Halls opened. After five

00:14years, the venue was totally transformed, bringing an international standard acoustic

00:19auditorium with a modern twist to Bristol. And in 2018, a three-year consultation began

00:26with the audiences, partners and communities of the city having their say in the new organisation.

00:33But having now been open for a year, the Bristol Beacon team, alongside Bristol City Council,

00:39have reviewed the lessons learned and key findings of the project.

00:44The findings, published on democracy.bristol.gov.uk, found that multiple stakeholders referenced

00:50that the cost contingency was insufficient. The true price of the refurbishment cost

00:56taxpayers over £183m.
