Strong cold front crossing south-east Australia

A heatwave in the east looks to be replaced by a strong coldfront moving up from the south of the country.

00:00Hello from the Bureau with your national weather forecast for tomorrow, so that's Wednesday

00:04the 15th of January.

00:07So we'll start off by looking at tomorrow's weather chart, and we have this strong cold

00:11front crossing southeastern Australia bringing patchy rain, showers and thunderstorms and

00:16significantly cooler temperatures behind it.

00:19While in the east, hot and humid conditions continue to bring instability with showers

00:24and storms mostly during the afternoon and evening, then this ridge of high pressure

00:29here quickly building in behind it, bringing more settled conditions and much milder temperatures

00:35to the remainder of southern Australia.

00:37But we'll start off by taking a closer look at Queensland, generally dry in the southwest

00:42with these hit and miss showers and storms starting to really fire up during the afternoon

00:46and evening.

00:47Now storms may be severe about the southern interior and the central interior, bringing

00:52damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall.

00:55Well above average temperatures through inland and northern parts where severe heatwave

00:59conditions continue.

01:01For Brisbane, a partly cloudy day with the risk of a shower or storm during the afternoon

01:06atop of 33 degrees.

01:08For NSW, showers and storms are possible across much of the state, however are most likely

01:14across that eastern half.

01:17Now storms may be severe bringing heavy rainfall, damaging winds or large hail, and it will

01:22be a hot and humid day, grading to very hot in the northwest with that cooler southwesterly

01:27change pushing in from the west.

01:29For Sydney, a partly cloudy day with showers developing and the risk of a thunderstorm

01:34atop of 31 degrees, while for Canberra, showers developing and also a risk of a thunderstorm

01:40atop of 32.

01:41For Victoria, warm and humid conditions ahead of that cold front that will bring patchy

01:47rain, showers and the risk of thunderstorms gradually clearing from the west.

01:54Storms may be severe across that eastern half of Victoria during the afternoon.

01:59For Melbourne, it will be a windy morning with that southwesterly change due through

02:03around mid to late morning, with showers and even the risk of a thunderstorm.

02:08The maximum of 28 degrees will be reached in the morning and it will be a much cooler

02:11afternoon.

02:13For Tasmania, we've got these showers that will really start to develop from the west

02:17and extend across the state with a risk of thunderstorms as well.

02:22Hobart, partly cloudy with showers developing during the afternoon atop of 25 degrees.

02:29Up in South Australia, isolated showers and storms throughout central and eastern parts

02:34clearing from the west, a gusty southwesterly change bringing much milder conditions particularly

02:40across southern areas.

02:42For Adelaide, a partly cloudy day with a shower or two, most likely during the morning

02:47atop of 24.

02:49For WA, gusty showers and storms in the northern half of the state, while in the south generally

02:55mild and mostly sunny weather with just some cloud about the southern coast.

03:01While for the tropical north, we've got shower and thunderstorm activity really starting

03:05to ramp up and there is the potential for heavy rainfall about the Kimberley and the

03:10Pilbara.

03:11For Darwin, showers and a possible storm atop of 33 degrees.
