00:05should go loud and clear across the world, that India today is on the verge of emerging
00:10as a global power as far as its metallurgical capabilities are concerned, and thereby also
00:16contribute hugely, hugely to the making of Vixit Bharat 2047.

00:39Saulo, Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization, to share her inspiring remarks

01:23Department, distinguished guests, esteemed colleagues, friends, ladies and gentlemen.
01:31On behalf of the World Meteorological Organization, it is my honour to extend my warmest greetings
01:38and heartfelt congratulations to IMD on this extraordinary milestone, the celebration of
01:46its 150th anniversary.
01:50Established in 1875, IMD stands as a testament to India's pioneering spirit in meteorological
01:58science.
02:00For 150 years, it has served as a cornerstone of weather observation, forecasting, and research
02:09across the Indian subcontinent.
02:13This legacy of dedication and innovation has enhanced India's resilience and contributed
02:20greatly to the global good.
02:23IMD plays a fundamental role in disaster risk reduction by protecting communities from extreme
02:30weather events.
02:32Its expertise also supports key sectors such as agriculture, weather resource management,
02:39energy, tourism, aviation, and public health.
02:44The commitment to public service resonates deeply with WMO's core mission of ensuring
02:51a safer and more resilient world for all.
02:56The socioeconomic benefits that result from these targeted meteorological and climate
03:02services are huge.
03:05And my message today is that investment in national meteorological and hydrological services
03:12is a win-win for everyone.
03:15This is something that India can be proud of.
03:20The 150th anniversary milestone also reflects the unwavering dedication and brilliance of
03:28generations of scientists, researchers, and staff who have served IMD with passion and
03:36purpose.
03:37Their tireless efforts have not only strengthened India's meteorological capabilities but have
03:44also enriched the global scientific community.
03:49At this juncture, I would like to say a special word about the essential role of an Indian
03:56female scientist who was a pioneer.
04:00Anna Mani, born in 1918, advanced to becoming deputy director general of IMD.
04:11She excelled in a male-dominated profession and was a role model for female meteorologists
04:18all over the world.
04:22In 2025, WMO celebrates its 75th anniversary as a specialized agency of the United Nations.
04:33When I look at WMO photos in 1950s and compare them with today, I realize how far we have
04:42traveled towards gender parity, but also how far we still have to go.
04:49As a founding member of WMO since 1950, India has been an invaluable partner in WMO's programs.
