11:56It was one of the high points of President Pogbia's message to the diplomatic corps in
12:00Cameroon Friday during the New Year wishes ceremony at the Unity Palace.
12:06President Pogbia showed gratitude to the international community for the election of former Prime
12:10Minister Philemon Yang as President of the 79th session of the United Nations General
12:16Assembly.
12:17Climate change, terrorism and globalism also featured in his speech, as Charles Ebune reports.
12:24The ambassadorial room of the Unity Palace this Friday, January 10, 2025, already seated
12:31are High Commissioners, Ambassadors, Chargés d'Affaires and Heads of International Organizations
12:37accredited in Cameroon as they await the arrival of President Pogbia to deliver his last conventional
12:42speech to the international community before the next presidential elections in October
12:47this year.
12:48With about 80 foreign dignitaries in the hall, Pogbia begins his 2025 New Year wishes address
12:54to the diplomatic community with an expression of gratitude following the election of former
12:59Prime Minister Philemon Yang as President of the 79th United Nations General Assembly.
13:10I am pleased to say that, thanks to the support of your various countries, the said candidacy
13:16was successful.
13:18I wish to thank your various governments and the international community.
13:26And with last year 2024 established as the hottest in recorded memory, President Pogbia
13:32believes the survival of our world is in the balance with climate change if we fail to
13:37respect engagements taken to roll back the scotch.
13:46I believe that nationalism, surging unilateralism at the expense of multilateralism and the
13:55non-respect of international rules explain this situation.
14:07At a time when conflicts killed about 200,000 people in 2024, President Pogbia reiterated
14:13the need for peace through dialogue and solidarity to tackle differences amongst people.
14:24Recent natural disasters attest the gravity of climate change.
14:30We are in a pressing dilemma.
14:32We either act together now or perish together in the long run.
14:41A living testimony of the Second World War, wherein the atomic bomb was used with known
14:46cataclysmic consequences, the head of state raised legitimate fears of the recurrent nuclear
14:52language threats in the world today.
15:01Terrorism despite our collective efforts, continued, a nuclear war with terrible human
15:08outcomes is evident in our uncertain world today.
15:17To effectively tame some of the world's pressing needs like ending terrorism, inequalities
15:22and financial stress, Pogbia proscribed multilateralism over unilateralism as a solution putting the
15:28United Nations at the center of all of it.
15:35What our world needs is solidarity.
15:38If we have to survive, we have no choice than to collectively establish our priorities and
15:46means federated.
15:52The discourse was watched closely amongst others by the operational arm of Cameroon's
15:57foreign policy team, with External Relations Minister Ben Lambela in the hall from start
16:02to finish as Pogbia retired to his private apartment at the Unity Palace after the speech.
16:11On to something else now.
16:12Officials of elections Cameroon in the Damawa region say after a week into the reopening
16:17of electoral registers, over 400 new voters have been enrolled.
16:22The results have been attributed to a combination of door-to-door outreach efforts and other
16:27persuasive strategies implemented by election officials in Goundere.
16:32From Goundere, Ellis Wajibanmiya completes the story.
16:39As voter registration efforts intensify across Cameroon, officials in the Damawa region are
16:45making strides towards meeting their target of enrolling 35,000 new voters this year.
16:51Since the resumption of registration operations on January 1, 407 individuals have already
16:57joined the electoral list.
17:03For one week, we have registered 306 men and 101 women.
17:09Things are a little slow at the moment.
17:14To boost enrollment numbers, Elecam has deployed registration teams to key public spaces.
17:20While the initial turnout has been modest, officials remain optimistic and emphasize
17:26that citizen engagement is priority.
17:31I came to the police station to produce my identity card and afterwards I decided to
17:36register since the Elecam team is around.
17:41Elecam is focused on ramping up efforts, hoping to meet its ambitious goal and ensure widespread
17:47participation in the upcoming elections.
17:51Two new academic partnerships have been formalized between the University of Ebola and two private
17:57institutions of higher learning.
17:59The collaboration will enable the state institution to supervise programs and mentor young students
18:05from the private institutions from admission to the issuance of diplomas.
18:10Silas Mkwai reports from Ebola.
18:14These partnerships undeniably mark the start of a new academic adventure between the University
18:19of Ebola and the two private institutions of higher learning.
18:23As a promoter of this project, it's really learn by doing, teaching by practicing.

18:34that the University of Ebola, acting through its Faculties of Law and Political Science,
18:39Economics and Management, Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the National Advanced School
18:44of Maritime, Ocean Science and Technology, will henceforth supervise their programs from

18:58the sharing of knowledge while ensuring that training is aligned with current labor market
19:03realities.

22:04High school students clad in their school uniforms this Saturday listening with
22:10raft attention to deans of faculties from higher institutions of learning in Cameroon and abroad
22:18as they expound on study opportunities available for the students in their
22:23institutions after high school. I learned that we can travel, we can go and do our
22:32our master program to maybe in Canada or to the US. It was really benefits, I learned a lot of things.
22:40Also present are university students who aspire to take masters and PhD courses out of Cameroon.

23:02Organizers are upbeat about the impact of the venture.
23:13This is the first time that professionals in the education sector from all embassies are present

23:25This is an innovation.
23:27The initiative will pitch its tent next Saturday, January 18th in Douala,
23:35where the fifth edition of Campus Horizons will wrap up.
23:41Let's read a book, The Journey, A Refuted Truth. On this edition of the news authored by Edelbel
23:49Courage Agnele, the 200-page book recollects and presents life as a journey of uncertainty
23:55but which must be lived. The author invites youths in this piece of work to take responsibility
24:02in their various societies. Clovis Bower read the book for the 730 News.
24:09The effects of conflicts, land and human exploitation as well as the quest for identity
24:15are some of the tenets which Adelbert Courage Agnele brings out in his book titled The Journey,
24:21A Refuted Truth. The Journey, A Refuted Truth, it's me trying to depict the realities of our
24:31transitional phases as youths, as we go across life, as we traverse across life and equally
24:38be able to highlight the impact that mental slavery is having on this transitioning phase.
24:45The message contained in the 200-page novel goes beyond the travails Ashu Maxwell Ndi,
24:51the protagonist and his friends encountered in their quest to restore sanity to their village.
24:57We're too busy on our phones, we're too busy on the internet, we're too busy entertained than
25:02actually seeing the things that matter to us, like the fact that we don't just want to have
25:07the theoretical knowledge, we want to be able to have the opportunities and platforms to put
25:11practically the knowledge we theoretically get most of the time. We want to be able to express
25:16who we are without prejudice or without feeling like oh this is just a youth I'm shoved to the
25:22background. For Adelbert Courage, it is high time today's youths assumed their identity and take
25:28responsibility so as not to allow the grave possess their great ideas which the world never gets to
25:36hear. Cameroonian scientist and author Jean Bonjoie has launched his latest publication
25:45Artificial Intelligence a Vision for Africa. The book examines the place of artificial
25:50intelligence in Africa and how it can reshape the continent's economy. The release comes ahead of
25:57the Artificial Intelligence Summit built for Paris in February. Journalism student Monira
26:04reports from Itoala. The book Artificial Intelligence a Vision for Africa presents
26:12the benefits of artificial intelligence in all its facets. It's launched by the scientist and
26:18author Jack Bonjao was indeed a success. It's a big opportunity for us to learn about this experience
26:26especially when you talk about professional life. The former manager of Microsoft in Redmond
26:33currently a leading figure in the MSN service of an American company also highlights the numerous
26:40risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence. One of the things that I'm trying
26:45to mention here is the importance of AI. We need to make sure that people don't develop
26:54technologies that could harm the mankind. Jack Bonjao who is also the first president of the
27:01African Virtual University wrote an open letter with African scientists urging the governments of
27:07the continent to consider the application of AI in accordance with African customs in the countries
27:14of the sub-region. He will participate in the Artificial Intelligence Summit in Paris France in
27:21February. And to religion now the 48th annual seminar of bishops of Cameroon has rounded off
27:28in Boya with bishops calling on Cameroonians to shun conflicts and embrace peace for the growth
27:34of the nation. In a high mass said by the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea
27:39José Avellino Betancourt the prelates emphasized the power of hope as theme for the jubilee year 2025.
27:47The Diocese of Kumba will host the next bishop conference as you tell us Hombu Suzie Monjoa from Boya.
27:54Bishops of Cameroon rounded off their annual seminar in Boya with a mass officiated by the
28:00Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. His grace José Avellino Betancourt
28:07encouraged the bishops and the entire church in Cameroon to focus on fostering love and unity.
28:14The spirit of solidarity was central to their discussions throughout the seminar.
28:21The church of Cameroon identifies herself with the suffering masses and that is why we decided
28:28to address this strong message of hope to our people and of the at the same time a message
28:35of encouragement and direction to the authorities that be so that Cameroon can be a place
28:41where everybody will feel at home. As the bishops prepare for the upcoming jubilee year
28:47they've expressed their determination to strengthen their bonds and deepen their service
28:52to both the church and the people of Cameroon. The closing ceremony took place in the presence
28:59of the governors of the southwest northwest and west regions and the wife of the prime minister
29:05head of government.
29:09And on to this obituary now Vincent Dumbe reputed yet retired producer at CRTV has been buried in
29:18his native Bonadibon in Douala one municipality. Family members friends and colleagues described
29:25the deceased as a talented individual who was so work conscious yet knew how to balance work
29:31and family life.
