00:30A pitiless trackdown of promoters of the sale of counterfeit and contraband drugs will begin in the country. This was the crux of the Cabinet meeting of the month of April chaired by Prime Minister Joseph John Goethe today in Yaoundé.
00:44P.W.D. of Bamenda clings on for survival in the MTN Elite One Championship with 23 points recorded. Draw any close to the relegation zone? The squad officials and players step up commitment in the game and promise victories in subsequent encounters.
01:02Those were the headlines of the 7.30 News. Thanks for joining us. I am Esther Kimah.
01:08The sale of counterfeit and contraband commodities and pharmaceutical products in Cameroon will be wiped off the map by the states in the coming days.
01:17Checking the practice which is a health threat to the population was the major issue of the Cabinet meeting for the month of April chaired today by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph John Goethe.
01:27Star Building Correspondent Christian Chair Adam reports.
01:35Cameroon suffers enormously from the importation and sale of illicit and counterfeit commodities as well as from the falsification of measuring instruments.
01:45In 2024 alone, over 14,000 cases of fraud were recorded in these domains.
01:52Counterfeiting as it is has strong repercussions on the economy of our country to the order of almost 100 billion a year and it affects the health of citizens of this country.
02:05The Cabinet meeting for April was thus a forum for government to examine the measures put in place to protect consumers.
02:12We are acting through control and anti-fraud National Brigade and also through the Department of Meteorology, Price and Quality.
02:26Illicit pharmaceutical products worth over a billion francs were destroyed in 2024, underscoring the need to ramp up protection measures for consumers.
02:35We have a national multi-sector committee on this fight against counterfeit medicines and this national committee based on a national strategy.
02:51The Minister of Mines has put in place a series of measures to protect Cameroonian consumers.
02:55Making sure that the product is controlled at the time of leaving the pot to this country and making sure that those products made in this country have got a label by Anor which shows that they are authenticated products.
03:10And of course, technology will come in when we use code bars.
03:14Given that several ministries are called to intervene in the protection of consumers, the main directive given by the Prime Minister of Government, Joseph Diangute, at the end of the session, is for the different ministries to work in greater synergy in order to curb the distribution and flow of illicit and fake commodities and drugs.
03:33In developments on the homage paid to Pope Francis, Prime Minister Diangute has signed the condolence book opened at the non-situ of the Roman Catholic Church in Yaoundé.
03:44In the words of sympathy, the head of government described the departed pontiff as a true friend of Cameroon.
03:51Christian Chair Atam, once again.
03:56The atmosphere was quiet at the non-situ of the Roman Catholic Church in Yaoundé when the Prime Minister arrived.
04:03The apostolic non-situ of Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea received the head of government.
04:07Joseph Diangute and Archbishop José Avellino Betancourt, once inside, had a short conversation about how they each learned about the passing of the Pope.
04:18The PM then went forward to pen his words of condolence.
04:22Joseph Diangute described the departed Pope in the condolence book as a protector of the weak and the vulnerable and as a true friend of Cameroon.
04:31Pope Francis demonstrated his love for Africa, but particularly for Cameroon.
04:38He sent a number of persons to come and visit us.
04:43He sent his Secretary of State.
04:46He sent many others and was in the process of organizing other events before his passing.
04:54He stood for social justice, he stood for peace, he stood for mercy, and he stood for the protection of the weak and the vulnerable.
05:05It is important that we come here and demonstrate the affection which all Cameroonians had for him.
05:14After signing the condolence book, the PM was led to a little chapel by the side, where the picture of the Pope has been set up with candles and the cross, a time to offer a silent prayer for the departed Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church.
05:28The nuncio of the Catholic Church in Cameroon, which has received the visits of two previous Popes, is in the mood of mourning for Pope Francis, a sorrow mixed with gratitude for the life of the Pope and hope for the church he leaves behind.
05:43In one of our top stories, the official christening of the new National Assembly edifice as the Paul Beale Glass Palace will take place tomorrow in Yaoundé.
05:53The naming of the complex after the President of the Republic is an inaugural, as it is the first state institution which is an eponym of Paul Beale.
06:02A National Assembly Bureau order signed by the House Speaker, the Right Honourable Kavik Ejibul endorsed the decision.
06:08Ahead of tomorrow's events, Sidonine Jopmandi reports on the preparedness of the institution assessed by Deputy Speaker, Honourable Thodio Odato.
06:18In just less than 24 hours, the ceremony to Christians, the new National Assembly complex, will kick off and everything is set for a successful event.
06:28The new architectural jewel, especially the garden and the house chamber, all is well displaced to welcome the different guests invited on the occasion.
06:38I think that by tomorrow morning, everything will be okay.
06:43So we are satisfied and we think that we will offer a very good ceremony to Cameroonians.
06:50We invite them to come and join us to celebrate the President of the Republic, President Paul Beale.
07:00At the level of the different organization committees, a general meeting was organized to verify if all the names of different invitees have been arranged,
07:10how they will be seated, and how the staff of the National Assembly will conduct activities during the ceremony.
07:17According to the President of the Organization Committee, it is with great joy and pleasure that
07:23he appreciates the level of preparedness of these important events, which he considers very special.
07:30And now we take this press release from the Prime Minister's Office Cabinet.
07:35The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph-Jangote-Shall,
07:39on the esteemed instructions of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul Beale,
07:44preside over the christening ceremony of the National Assembly Building, Paul Beale Glass House,
07:49on Friday, 25th of April, 2025, at the Ngwaikele neighborhood, as from 11 a.m. prompt.
07:57It is signed by the Director of Cabinet, Balungeli Confiance, Ebune.
08:01Now on to our Thursday of the Regions.
08:04We plunge the newsroom into the perennial problem of the non-declaration of births.
08:09In the North Region, more than 260,000 children do not have birth certificates,
08:14the essential documents for identification and enrollment in official examinations
08:19and the issuance of national identity cards.
08:22Maimou Nanjouya reports that in spite of ongoing action to ease the acquisition of birth certificates,
08:28much is still to be done.
08:31Figures attest to how serious the problem is.
08:35More than 349,000 children lack birth certificates in the North Region,
08:41and out of this number, procedures are being followed to issue 87,849 birth certificates
08:50to primary school kids, precisely those in classes 5 and 6.
08:55Last year, 2024, 21,066 children without birth certificates were identified,
09:03and some of the reasons advanced are a poor mastery of the requirements
09:07or even cases where women put to birth at home.
09:15Sometimes parents neglect the declaration process until it reaches a point
09:19where their children have to sit in for official exams.
09:23It is only then that they start seeking for solutions,
09:26in order for their children to fulfill the conditions,
09:29to write either the SEP or First School Living Certificate,
09:33which is the first official exam.
09:35The number of children without a legal existence in the North Region keeps increasing,
09:42and this justifies the introduction of digital solutions
09:46and the simplification of birth declarations thanks to the law
09:51on civil status registration adopted in December 2024.
09:56A sustainable solution put in place by the state is the application of the December 2024 law
10:03on civil status registration, which provides for the digitalization of procedures.
10:08This adds up to the works of the National Bureau of Civil Status
10:12that advance identification and registration of births in both rural and urban areas.
10:18Julius Niba reports that the extension of the period to declare birth
10:21is also a huge motivation.
10:25Thanks to the new civil status registration law,
10:28officials in charge of the service in the North Region highlight that
10:30they have taken their services close to the people
10:33by setting up proximity offices in over 40 health districts in the region
10:37to facilitate the issuing procedure of birth certificates.
10:40As soon as a child is born, he or she is raised at a district hospital
10:45and the declaration is done immediately if the hospital is connected
10:48to the civil status registration office and the birth certificate is then produced.
10:52And we have also modernized the system
10:54by adopting the digitalization of the civil status registration procedure.
10:57Some council officials, like those of Garuatu, who have embraced the digitalization move,
11:06note that they are also contributing their own quota in the campaign
11:09to curb the birth certificate challenge by offering the first legal civil status document
11:14free of charge to some unidentified children.
11:16During our open days, we have successfully delivered over 1,500 birth certificates
11:24just with the assistance of partners like UNICEF and GIZ
11:28who assist us in our efforts to support these children.
11:33The adoption of the new civil status registration law
11:36also permits parents who have not been able to declare their newborns
11:39within the stipulated 90 days
11:41to solicit the competent divisional officers
11:43who can help them procure a birth certificate
11:45even after a period of one year.
11:48Another news, the 14th edition of the Debt Relief and Development Programme
11:52Breakfast Holding in Yaoundé has underscored the importance
11:55of the reinforcement of civil registration in the West
11:59and restitution of rights projects.
12:02Officially launched last month, the initiative
12:04gears towards ensuring access and quality civil status registration services
12:09as well as raising awareness on the essence of documents
12:12at the local and national levels.
12:14The collaboration between the project sponsors
12:16and the Debt Relief and Development Programme finance
12:19to the tone of over 2 billion CERI France
12:22for a period of three years was explained
12:24to media practitioners in Yaoundé.

24:45It's true,
24:45the pressure is there,
24:46but we are confident.
24:47On their part,

25:18that fascinated

25:32Clenis Ayumbom
25:33Abengo reports
25:34that after

25:41Recruitment
25:42is not
25:43the way
25:44I want
25:45because I'm
25:46not there
25:46when we do
25:47that recruitment.
25:49So when I come
25:50I'm obliged
25:53to do it
25:53that is effective.
25:55When the Mercato
25:56comes we do
25:56some recruitment
25:57to stabilize
25:58the team.
26:00You are
26:00stabilized now.
26:02The players
26:02talk of a
26:03serene atmosphere
26:04within the squad
26:05as they work hard
26:07to maintain
26:07the name
26:08of the club
26:08in the top tier.
26:10It's sad to say
26:11what we perform
26:13is not what
26:14we really want
26:15on the pitch.
26:16We are not happy
26:17with the result
26:18but I think
26:18we are going
26:21to try our best
26:22and to see
26:22how to try
26:24turn things around
26:25for ourselves
