Young man dead after 'ferocious attack' at park in Melbourne's south-west

A group of at least 12 men have ambushed another group at a Wyndham Vale, Melbourne reserve last night, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old man. Edged weapons were used in the "ferocious" and "targeted" attack, according to police. Investigators have urged the community to come forward with CCTV and dashcam footage to assist with their enquiries.

00:25Vale in Melbourne South West when a group of 12 men pulled up in four white cars and

00:31ambushed them.

00:32I went into attack mode pretty much right away.

00:34I saw a couple of boys carrying machetes.

00:37CCTV from homes nearby shows the panicked moments just after the attack.

00:42An orange car believed to belong to the ambushed group is seen speeding away from the park

00:47before returning and mounting the curb as several others run from the scene.

00:51It certainly appeared it was targeted.

00:55The way they've turned up and just gone straight to it.

00:57The 24-year-old was found by police with a stab wound.

01:01He died at the scene while two other men, both aged 27, were taken to hospital with

01:06non-life-threatening injuries.

01:08Four men were arrested nearby but the alleged attackers haven't been found.

01:14There's no doubt whoever was ruling the blows has had some clear intent to cause serious

01:21damage and probably killing.

01:24This morning police and members of the SES combed the park looking for clues while mounted

01:29officers patrolled the streets.

01:32The orange car was also towed away, its back windscreen smashed in.

01:37Detectives say those in custody were not known to police and they've yet to determine the

01:42exact motive behind the attack.

01:44They've asked anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage to get in touch.
