NATO to step up Baltic Sea patrols after Finland-Estonia power cable damage

Countries in the region have been on alert following a string of incidents involving damage to undersea cables and gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea since 2022, widely believed to be acts of sabotage.

00:14On Thursday, Finnish authorities boarded and seized control of the Eagle-S, which they

00:18suspect of causing damage to an undersea power cable linking Finland and Estonia.

00:24The ship's anchor is believed to have caused damage to the Estlink-2 cable.

00:28The Eagle-S is flagged in the Cook Islands, but has been described by officials as being

00:33part of Russia's shadow fleet of tankers shipping oil and gas in defiance of international

00:38sanctions.

00:39In a post on X, Mark Rutter said NATO will enhance its military presence in the Baltic

00:45Sea.

00:46Countries in the region have been on high alert following a string of incidents of damage
