I'm Conway Ginns reporting from the New York Stock Exchange.
00:02
Here's what we're watching on the street today.
00:05
Stocks ended Monday session close to where they began.
00:08
New data show Americans are feeling less confident in December.
00:11
The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index surprisingly dropped for the first time
00:16
in three months.
00:17
According to the survey, the positive euphoria over an incoming Trump administration is wearing
00:23
off.
00:25
In other news, on the 12th day of Christmas, true lovers everywhere received a higher bill.
00:32
That's right, the items in the holiday favorite, 12 Days of Christmas, are collectively up
00:37
5.4% in 2024 compared to 2023.
00:41
The annual holiday price list is compiled by PNC Bank.
00:44
It is based on figures from the government's Consumer Price Index, which, by the way, was
00:49
only up 2.7% in November.
00:51
Mimicking the real world, prices for services are running hotter than things you can touch.
00:57
Thanks to the rising cost of human labor, 10 Lords a Leaping are the most expensive
01:02
at $15,579.65 for the group.
01:07
The biggest price jump, however, is for the 11 Pipers Piping and 12 Drummers Drumming.
01:13
Both are up 15.8% from a year ago.
01:16
The next biggest price jump comes from six geese a-laying.
01:20
You can blame bird flu for that.
01:22
That price tag jumped 15.4%, totaling $900.
01:27
Inflation isn't flying away with every bird.
01:29
The price for seven swans a-swimming held steady, but it remained the second most expensive
01:35
gift on the list.
01:36
The swans will set you back $13,125.
01:41
Who knew swans were so expensive?
01:43
As for the other gifts that didn't see inflation this year, eight milking maids, four calling
01:48
birds, two turtle doves, and oh yeah, that partridge is the same price.
01:52
But that pear tree is 17.1% more expensive at $350.
01:58
According to PNC, the so-called true cost of buying all the gifts in the song totals
02:02
more than $209,000 if you bought them in-store and nearly $247,000 online when you throw
02:10
in shipping costs.
02:12
And that'll do it for your daily briefing from the New York Stock Exchange.
02:15
I'm Conway Gittens with the Street.
02:18
Thanks for watching.
