Leeds: How often do you use cash for payments?

With one in five shop purchases now made in cash, how often do you use cash when shopping, and do you think it's still an important payment option? What are your reflections on a cashless society?

00:00I do not agree with a cashless society. I think it's a dangerous route to go down.

00:06I think that cash is very important, especially for small businesses.

00:11And I think the more that we can use cash, the better, really.

00:15And I'm glad that it's on the uprise again.

00:17I think since Covid, I've kind of almost exclusively used my card rather than cash.

00:23But I do like to carry some around.

00:26Because it seems to be kind of around Leeds as well, there's a lot of homeless people.

00:30And I'll give them money with a card.

00:32Since Covid itself, I've got a much more used to contactless payment using card itself.

00:37I think you're seeing a bit more of a rigidness within the older generation to necessarily transfer to card.

00:43I do get it because obviously cash is legal tender.

00:45The problem with this is it's so easy to spend.

00:48When you hand over a handful of notes, you know how much it took to get that.

00:52But when you go click with a card, it means nothing.

00:55It just means your account is less.

00:56But you don't feel the pain of spending when you use card.
