00:00The Office of Civil Defense, DSWD, and FIVOX agree the operative phrase and default mindset in the danger zone of
00:07Mount Canloan is the worst-case scenario. This after the volcano's expected
00:14unexpected blast two days ago that sent volcanic ash and debris some four kilometers upward and its
00:21continued rumblings of late. PTV's Mela Lesmoras has this report.
00:26The government is preparing for the worst-case scenario
00:32following the eruption of Canloan Volcano. In the event the volcano's alert level is raised to level 4 from the current level 3,
00:40the number of individuals requiring evacuation will climb from 86,000 to
00:46139,000 proportionally to the danger zone expanding to 8 up to 10 kilometers.
00:51Based on the recommendation of FIVOX, we are doing already a worst-case scenario planning
00:59wherein our planning can reach up to 10 kilometers. That will require additional evacuation centers,
01:06require additional
01:08food assistance and the likes. Because after it erupts, they will return immediately.
01:14We still have to assess what happened in the areas that are hit by the worst-case scenario or the very violent eruption.
01:23Nearly 50% or over 39,000 individuals have been evacuated from the six-kilometer danger zone.
01:30Most evacuees are from La Castellana, La Carlota City and Canloan City.
01:35Mandatory evacuation is ongoing for the remaining residents. We have to move away from danger.
01:42Because if there are no more people in the six-kilometer zone, even if it erupts again and again, no one will die.
01:48As for the ashfall, there are solutions for that. But the pyroclastic
01:54materials, the density, the PDC that is called, that is dangerous.
01:59That is why we need to move away the people in the six-kilometer zone.
02:03And if we need 8, 10, we will do that. That is our goal. There should be zero casualty.
02:09There is a warning that is being given. We don't want that while it erupts, we will be rescued.
02:16Although there are no indications to raise the alert level, PHIVOX is closely monitoring Canloan volcanoes' activity,
02:23which has recorded 31 volcanic earthquakes after its recent unrest.
02:27The possibility of lahar is also being monitored in case of rainfall in Negros.
02:32Explosive eruption may be followed by similar explosive eruptions on short term,
02:37which may generate density currents within the six-kilometer radius area on the summit.
02:43If it rains, the volcanic materials on the slopes of the volcano may be immobilized as lahars.
02:52This is very important, especially now that it is raining in Caglaon.
02:57The DSWD has distributed food packs, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, and other assistance to evacuees.
03:04A stockpile of 87,000 family food packs is ready for distribution at a moment's notice in DSWD-filled offices in Region 6 and 7.
03:14The production of our family food packs is still non-stop and the delivery of these family food packs is also non-stop.
03:24From PTV Manila, Melalas Moras with Patrick De Jesus, Balitang Pambansa.
