00:00Bad actors and criminal minds, sociopaths and terrorists included, are known to strike when people feel safe, calm and in a good mood.

00:08Times when they let their guard down.

00:10But the police are not having any of it or taking chances going on high alert,

00:14even to protect and serve the public on this happiest and most peaceful time of the year.

00:19Orion Lasigas has more.

00:23No threats have been identified by the Philippine National Police or PNP for the upcoming holiday season thus far.

00:29However, the PNP has increased its deployment to ensure criminals cannot take advantage of the situation.

00:35The PNP will deploy up to 41,000 police officers to monitor activities and certain locations during the holiday season.

00:41PNP Chief Police General Romel Francisco Marabil has ordered all regional directors to implement strict security measures during the holiday season.

00:50Marabil specifically instructed his team to monitor markets, malls, changas, recreational areas, transportation hubs and traffic congested locations.

01:01General Marabil stated the aim is to protect the public from potential criminal activities during this period.

01:07The peculiarity of the areas we are looking at, if you are deployed in a public area, it would be prudent on their part to increase their deployment.

01:16So we also expect that as Christmas approaches, there will still be adjustments when it comes to the figures that are being given here at the National Headquarters.

01:29The PNP is also urging the public to be cautious of online scams, especially when booking hotel accommodations through unreliable travel agencies.

01:37As a result, the PNP leadership has instructed the Anti-Cybercrime Group to intensify information dissemination against such scams and warn the public about clicking unsafe links.

01:48The PNP will also monitor the planned rally of the INC in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s stance against the impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.

01:59By next week, effective December 15, we will no longer allow our policemen to leave, except of course for emergencies that they need to take care of.

02:11This is to make sure that we have enough people who will be deployed this holiday season.

02:18Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard is also on heightened alert in preparation for security measures as the number of travelers surge and swell during the holiday season.

02:28In line with this, PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Hill-Govan has ordered all districts, stations, and substations to intensify monitoring to ensure security at ports, ferry terminals, and maritime transportation.

02:41The PCG will also deploy personnel to the beaches and private resorts nationwide, which are expected to be crowded with tourists.
