Hi, so my name's Isaac and this is Grace. We run Jolly Jellies here in Waterlooville opening this
00:06
Saturday which is tomorrow at the time of speaking. We're looking forward to meeting
00:11
everyone and looking forward to supplying everyone their sweets and chocolates and all them goodies
00:16
really. Yeah perfect, perfect. So yeah and it's something you've both been running since the
00:21
start of the year, is that right? Just online? About February time, yeah. Okay, it's quite
00:25
unique obviously because you're both quite young so would you kind of always wanted to own your
00:28
own business, that was kind of in your ideas? That's me, that's me. I've always, I've dabbled
00:33
in loads of different bits, tried a few businesses out. I was in the clothing industry for a little
00:38
while with one of my friends and then just at the start of the year I just decided to do,
00:42
just try and run a sweet business really, that's as simple as that. Yeah. The sweet shop up in
00:48
Waterlooville closed down about a year ago, yeah so about a month or two after he closed
00:56
we started doing it online. I got my food hygiene from home, tamped one of the rooms into a little
01:01
office and sort of went from there really, started doing it for collections and delivery. Then we
01:07
started doing events, we've done a few festivals over the summer and then it sort of took off,
01:11
everyone was asking us to open a shop so we did really. It grew quite quickly, it went from
01:17
friends and family making up their boxes for birthdays and sort of last Christmas and then
01:22
all of a sudden it sort of hit the members of the public quite quick and we got really busy.
01:27
It was really good. Very quickly yeah, starting from a few little bits for friends and family
01:31
then we had a few birthdays, then we had to do some catering and then we started doing the festivals
01:37
then we done more events and it sort of just got very busy really. Yeah. We had some days where
01:42
we'd have to do two events in a day, I had to buy two lots of gazebos and tables and all the flags
01:47
and equipment. We ended up in two different places at once at one point. We were so busy yeah,
01:53
I'd have to wake up five o'clock in the morning, go to the first event, set her up early and then
01:58
I'd go off and do another event and we were usually busy, over the summer we were so busy.
02:02
Yeah perfect and what, obviously opening tomorrow, but what type of stuff are you going to be?
02:08
Honestly it sounds a bit silly but we will literally have everything you can imagine,
02:12
we've got all the fizzies, all the jellies, we've got all the traditional, we've got the hard boils,
02:17
got all the lollies, we'll be set up for catering. We're going to have a variety in terms of eating
02:26
preferences, so you'll have your sugar-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, all that sort of thing.
02:32
Vegan, vegetarian, halal, every sort of eating preference, caters for every allergy, just doing
02:39
the best we can really. Yeah perfect, obviously it all started online and with events, is that
02:44
something you're going to keep going? Yeah we'll carry on with that definitely, yeah it brings more
02:48
people to the shop, we get to go out to places that people wouldn't be able to reach us from,
02:52
sometimes we go quite far, so it sort of brings us that reach to further places that
02:59
they can also, we can, they can be retaining customers online, so if we're going somewhere
03:03
really far, like say we was to go like on the out edges of London. We went to the New Forest
03:09
not long ago, and everyone was really happy to see us, because there's not, we do it differently to
03:15
sweet shops, you don't just sort of get your 100 grams from a jar and off you go, we do
03:19
the full-on custom boxes, all the bags, everything like that, so it's a bit different to what
03:25
a sweet shop is normally like. Just traditionally, we're taking a modern sort of turn on the traditional sweets
03:29
essentially, we're just everywhere at the moment to be honest, everywhere, all over the
03:36
place, being as busy as we can and keeping everyone happy really. Perfect, perfect, and obviously it's
03:41
kind of small business Saturday this weekend, but yeah, so and how important was it, so you're
03:45
both local, how important was you to open a shop locally? How important was it? Yeah, yeah, well to
03:51
us it was incredibly important, I feel like to the members of public it seems like it was as well,
03:56
we've had nothing but positive feedback really, and we didn't do it off of our own back, we done it
04:01
because people asked us to, we was mobile and we've done events, but everyone didn't want to see
04:06
us once a month at their local market or for example the schools when we do the fates, and
04:13
they wanted to come whenever they could, whenever they're up in Waterlooville, they wanted to come
04:17
pop in, grab their sweets, didn't want to have to order some of them, so some of them were just like
04:21
open a shop, we'll come to your shop, we'll all support you, sort of thing, because that's just
04:25
what the public wanted at the end of the day. Perfect, and obviously now kind of on the eve of it, how
04:30
excited are you to actually open the doors? Very excited, yeah, it's been, it's been, it's been hard
04:36
work, it's been a lot of hard work getting it ready, and we're not 100% ready as of yet, but
04:41
we're going to pull a late shift tonight, and do a little bit of Christmas sort of thing, things that aren't
04:46
the necessity to get open. Yeah, they're all like literally touches. Yeah, we've got a few things, like our
04:50
sign writing hasn't been finished yet, so we've got banners going out, and flags, and things like that
04:55
instead, but obviously we're opening tomorrow, we're going to get through the Christmas rush, and then
05:00
when the few days off at Christmas, we'll sort of revamp the shop a little bit, add some more colours
05:05
to the place, and add a bit more character to the shop. At the moment we've had to keep it a bit,
05:11
a bit simple to be able to open in time. Yeah, so it's a bit more rustic. Yeah, a bit rustic, yeah, with all of the
05:18
wood. I think people understand that. That's it, it's just wood and metal in here at the moment really, yeah.
05:24
That's great, and when you are open, so it'll be seven days a week? Seven days a week, Monday to
05:27
Saturday is standard hours for Waterlooville, which is 9am to 6pm, and on the Sundays they're
05:33
reduced hours of 10am to 4pm. That's every day.
