Cuba gradually reactivates electric power generation

Cuba's Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, informed on Wednesday about the reestablishment of electricity generation after the total disconnection of the National Electroenergy System (SEN) that occurred in the early hours of the morning, and assured that generation islands have already been activated in several provinces to gradually increase the number of energized circuits. teleSUR

00:05on restoring the national power grid after a failure led to a nationwide power outage.

00:10Cuba's national electric company specified that the power grid was fully disconnected

00:16at 2.08 a.m. local time due to the unexpected shutdown of the Antonio Guitera's thermoelectric

00:22power plant. Reporting on the progress of recovery efforts, the company unveiled that

00:27in the capital, Havana, 12 hospitals and 21 circuits already have service. In this regard,

00:34the Ministry of Energy and Mines informed subsystems are already in place and working

00:38throughout the country with the national system gradually being restored. The entity explained

00:44that this time conditions are more favorable than in previous incidents since recovery efforts

00:50are not being affected by meteorological events.

00:59And in this context, the Cuban Minister of Labor and Social Security, Marta Elena Feito,

01:05informed that labor and teaching activities in the country are suspended due to the electric

01:10service failures, stressing that no worker salaries will be affected. Feito also pointed

01:15out that the decision will be in place while the emergency lasts and that all vital services

01:21will be maintained.
