00:00Results for a luxury family jewellery business, a new opening for a pizza chain

00:04and entries open for the Made in Northern Ireland Awards. That's all coming up in

00:09today's business briefing.

00:14My name is Laurence Cleggannon. And I'm Robin Hewson. Morning Robin. Morning.

00:20Well everyone loves pizza so tell us a little bit about this this expansion for

00:24a pizza chain. Yeah so people in Manchester or the North West will

00:27probably know Nell's Pizza, a really popular brand. They opened their first

00:31site at campus which you might have been to. Yes, no it's very near our old office

00:34and went there. Fantastic sort of because they do their pizzas by slice as well as

00:39whole ones. Yeah and the slices are bigger than your head. Yeah yeah fantastic. They're really good.

00:42So where are they where are they expanding to? So their second site is

00:45going to be in Altrincham. So they've had some funding from the Northern

00:48Powerhouse Investment Fund, so MPIFF too. MPIFF yes, as we call it in the trade.

00:54So that's a fund managed by FW Capital and they've been deploying lots of money

00:58into North West businesses to help them scale up. So it's a six-figure investment

01:02for Nell's to help them develop and open this new site over in Altrincham.

01:06Excellent and is that creating jobs I imagine? Yes it should be up to 40 new

01:10jobs available and it's a quite nice story behind Nell's. So it's a family-run

01:14business and you might know them from so they own Common and The Beagle in

01:18Chorlton. So yeah it's the same people. So it's Johnny and Charlotte Hayes and

01:23yeah now they've kind of taken this Nell's concept and they're opening new sites.

01:27Well they're both really well named, Bratton's Common and so on. So it's great to see

01:30them behind another one that's now thriving. Yeah absolutely. Excellent we'll

01:33have to get out there in due course. Well sticking with the North West we've got

01:37news today about results for Boodles. They are a sixth generation luxury

01:43jeweller. They have sites in the North West in Manchester, Liverpool, Chester but

01:47they also have shops in London, Leeds and Dublin. So you know quite a lot of

01:52coverage there. Anyhow the business is controlled by the Wainwright family

01:57and they made a pre-tax profit of £18 million in their most recent

02:01accounts and that was despite a slight dip in sales. So things are going really

02:05well there and actually in the business review they said that they

02:10invested in the purchase of white and fancy coloured diamonds. So yeah I'm sure

02:16that would appeal to buyers there. And actually one of the

02:21Wainwright family, Anna, was one of our 4242's. Yes she was kind of the latest

02:25generation leading the business forward. That's right in August she was formally

02:29confirmed as a director and I think she oversees their marketing efforts.

02:34So great to see. And we actually are quite North West heavy today because you've

02:39been to a launch of a Manchester office business recently. Yes I have, so

02:44Cobra has just launched at 100 Barberoli Square. So it's brand new, it's

02:49their first venture and they've chosen Manchester out of the whole of the UK

02:52which was nice to hear. And they are super sustainable, like super

02:57well-being focused and it's co-working or like flexible office space which is

03:00obviously a really big trend at the moment across the North West. Okay okay

03:04and Barberoli Square of course is a really sort of prominent site, but more

03:08towards Manchester Central so kind of shifting the city centre a bit that way

03:12like they said, quite a good location for them. Definitely and I think it's a

03:16really iconic location, it's had a lot of really big occupiers and law firms in it

03:19over the years, so I think it will fit really nicely having this space for

03:22probably smaller occupiers in there as well. And what was the event in Ado, it

03:26was just a launch? So it was a launch, well they're also celebrating the fact

03:29they've just been awarded the world's first well co-working rated flex

03:33workspace. So the well-building standards are something that a lot of

03:37the office buildings are working towards and it's kind of the you know the

03:41pinnacle of sustainability and well-being and everything like that and

03:43this is a brand new rating that they've created specifically for like co-working

03:47and flex spaces and Cobra is the first one to have achieved that rating.

03:52Great to see that sort of pioneering spirit because it is of course so

03:54important for employees to feel like they're in places which have that to the

03:58forefront of the minds of people organising things. Brilliant, well

04:02finally we will escape the North West and head over the Irish Sea to Northern

04:07Ireland because entries have opened for the Made in Northern Ireland Awards. They

04:12sort of recognise the best in manufacturing, in engineering and all

04:16sort of the supply chain there. The entries are open till the 20th of

04:22February and the event takes place in May in Belfast, so yeah get your entries
