00:04And so I still think Gerard Mayo is in really solid ground going into 2025.

00:09You know, the question is how different will it look around him?

00:13And I think there are fair questions to ask when it comes to that.

00:25But the question is, what will it look like around him?

00:35And so I mean, you know, going into the year and even when they got off to a slow start

00:39and they were, you know, one in four, one in five, one in six, I still maintain that

00:44the relationship between Mayo and Kraft and the things that Kraft has said publicly just

00:49this year about Mayo would make it almost impossible to fire him.

00:55I mean, it's the NFL.

00:56Things can happen.

00:57You can get frustrated with how a season's going.

00:58You can not like how it's looked or it can be even worse than you expected.

01:02But I just thought, because Gerard Mayo is the head coach and not also the GM like Belichick

01:08was, you can look at it and say, well, the roster stinks, not his fault.

01:13All the offensive coordinator, which isn't his specialty, like isn't as good as we thought,

01:17even though actually it might be.

01:18But like you can you can find scapegoats around Mayo if you're Kraft and be like, we're keeping

01:23him.

01:24We made the right call with him.

01:25But what we what we screwed up was everybody else.

01:26So I still lean into that more than not.

01:29I just don't know.

01:30And look, I trust Burt's reporting.

01:31He says he's on solid ground.

01:32He's probably on solid ground.

01:33I wouldn't do that, but I'm not running the Patriots.

01:37I just wonder if that defense like that sounds like the ownership defense.

01:40We knew we were a long ways away.

01:42We knew the roster was really poor.

01:44It's a long rebuild.

01:45So they think they're going to win fewer games this year.

01:49No, I there's no way they thought that.

01:51And I just don't know if that's the defense they think it is.

01:54You guys didn't spend in free agency at all on outside talent.

01:58I mean, you brought you spent some to bring back your crummy players, but you didn't spend

02:02it all on outside talent and you didn't upgrade at obvious positions of need.

02:11You didn't spend any money at those positions, any significant money at those positions.

02:15So OK, they don't have the talent.

02:19You knew it was going to be a long rebuild.

02:20We didn't expect anything this year.

04:29Burke, is that Covington or does it feel like it needs to be a bigger move than Covington?

04:33I think right now Covington makes the most sense just because the defense has been bad.

04:40And I know Mayo should be a defensive guy.

04:42But maybe you find somebody with more experience doing that.

04:46Van Pelt's done probably enough to keep it.

05:18One of them was Luke Getzey, who got fired.

05:21One was Shane Waldron, who looks like the worst offensive coordinator of all time.

05:25Like they went through a bunch of guys that either said no or took other jobs and failed.

05:31Like Van Pelt might look decent.

05:34What kind of dog and pony show of an interview process would we get?

05:36But don't you just think more guys are going to be lining up to work with May?

05:42And I know technically last year you probably had a good idea.
