00:43So it isn't a shock to us because we saw him have a 2.8 era and a 0.9 whip

00:49But it's seven and three had some injuries

00:53So I do think there's a little bit of an element of at the beginning of this season

01:00While he was living up to what we probably were aware of and I'm sure people in the game were but it's a little bit

01:05Different when you're the Cy Young Award winner

01:08He has your attention from day one next year, right?

01:11Without question he better

01:15He's he's outstanding and a workhorse and

01:20I think he's a player that wants more of a workload

01:23And yet I totally understand what the Tigers would be cautious with it because of all the injuries

01:28He's had in his career, but he is and they have to arm events at Seattle

01:32I think he did and then he's had a couple of things happen

01:37Since being a tiger and that's University of Seattle or Seattle University not the Mariners, correct?

01:42That's where he that's where he was in college for people don't know that's what I'm referencing

01:46Now I'm not saying that what hitters are taking him lightly. I think everybody knew he was good

01:51But I just think it hits different when you're facing the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner. Would you not agree?

01:57That it affects teams psychologically, yeah now does it affect it could it affect them negatively could they be like a holy crap

02:05This is the Cy Young guy. I mean, there's a professional hitters

02:09But it you know, you're facing the Cy Young Award winner you full attention

02:13I think it really depends on the individual

02:15I do I think some some rookies might feel that way might be a little star-struck at first and then okay

02:33We as fans when we can say that we've got the Cy Young Award winner in our team

02:37It feels pretty good. He can be chesty about it and because he is in his late 20s

02:42This is the prime of his career. And so we feel like this is gonna be here for a while. This is sustainable

02:50This isn't some guy that showed up out of nowhere for one season or one half season lit the world on fire and then completely

02:58Disappeared this is a guy who you feel like okay. So starting with last year with

03:032023 that maybe through 2030 this guy could be the best pitcher in baseball

03:16Should we look at Justin Verlander when he was 28, or should we look at Justin Verlander in his

03:22Fifth fifth season probably his fifth season four or five. It's gonna be pretty good. Justin Verlander's fifth season. He went 19 and 9

03:323.45 era and a 1.18 whip. Okay scoob on his fifth season went 18 and 4

03:52Under pitched a lot more in his five years a lot more than

03:56Then school because school has been banged up each each and every year feels like in Verlander had

04:00You know a couple starts that first year says real rookie year was 2006 when they went the World Series. It was good

04:06The next year and the year I made was the third year was when it really started to kick in but I mean he was

04:11Pitching 200 innings. Yeah

04:14So if you look back when JV won the Cy Young that was the first time that was yeah

04:24It was a 2011. Hold on. Let me double-check. Yeah, it was 2011. So that's six years and it was yeah

04:29And that year he went 24 and 5 with a 2.4 era and a 0.92 whip

05:40Crazy thing about Verlander is he went eight years after he won 24 games eight years before he won 20 again

05:48Didn't win 20 again till 2019 and he won the Cy Young again

05:52although I would say I would love to have that eight-year interim for scooble like winning the Cy Young and

05:59If he does after what you know, cuz Verlander still had some really good years mixed in

06:12He went from 24 wins to 17 to 13 to 15 to 5 to 16 to 10 to 5

06:19While that last 5 was with Houston. So I'm just talking about his time in Detroit
