Glasgow: Should over-50s have their driving license revoked?

A recent survey revealed at 30 percent of people believe over 50s should have their driving licences revoked. We took to Argyle Street in Glasgow City Centre to find out what people think.

00:07Maybe not over 50.

00:08I don't think so.

00:09I think I can understand where people are coming from,

00:12especially when it comes to visual impairment.

00:14Your reaction time slows down incredibly as you get older as well.

00:19It's really funny, especially when you think about insurance.

00:23Insurance for young drivers is far higher than it is for older drivers,

00:27yet I wouldn't know what the statistics are,

00:29but you could probably say it's a fairly even split both ways

00:31between someone who's 70-plus and someone who's just passed.

00:35I wouldn't say over 50,

00:37but I think if you have a test done and your eyes come back with certain results,

00:41would you be technically legally blind in some cases?

00:44Maybe they should test you when you get older,

00:46like maybe the same age you get your bus pass, like 65.

00:49They should maybe test you to see how fit you are for driving,

00:52because there are plenty of very capable drivers who are over 50.

00:55I don't think it's, you know, you can't really decide on that.
