00:05Arizona's Pinal County is taking transparency to the next level.

00:10At this newly built election center, visitors can come to watch vote-counting in a glass room

00:16nicknamed the fish tank, while dozens of cameras are trained on the space,

00:20which live-stream on the internet.

00:23Anyone, any time, can observe the process from start to finish.

00:27They can observe our security measures that we've put in place to ensure that there's no tampering going on.

00:32It's hoped this $32 million election center will restore residents' trust in the election process.

00:39Arizona was a close race in 2020, with President Joe Biden beating Donald Trump by around 10,500 votes.

00:47The delay in the counting sparked protests, and the narrow margin fueled conspiracy theories,

00:53including that 40,000 ballots were flown in from Asia.

00:57This Republican believes that vote drop-off boxes were stuffed in 2020,

01:02an assertion for which there's no evidence, though he feels this year will be a lot smoother.

01:08They're very transparent, and I feel confident that whatever the outcome of this election is, I feel it's fair.

01:16While some analysts believe the transparency strategy is working to convince some election doubters,

01:22it can only go so far in a country where procedures differ from state to state,

01:26and where distrust in institutions is growing.

01:29According to a Pew Research Center study published in August,

01:33less than half of Republicans are confident that this presidential election will be conducted fairly.
