Hello there, it certainly feels like autumn is in full swing now, you may even need your
00:05
big coat whilst you're stepping outside this weekend. We've got northerly winds bringing
00:09
in cold air from the Arctic sweeping its way across all areas of the UK. Notice as well
00:14
how those ice bars are really quite tightly spaced together across the north east, we've
00:17
seen 77 mph gusts of winds this morning across Fair Isle. Whilst those severe gales are easing
00:23
off it is going to remain still quite a windy and blustery day for eastern areas, exacerbating
00:28
that cold feel even more. There's northerly winds also bringing in showers for the north
00:33
and west, will to be in wintry over the higher grounds of Scotland, maybe some hail to lower
00:37
levels of Scotland and Northern Ireland as well. But some areas will stay largely dry
00:41
throughout today, particularly Fife down towards East Anglia, that eastern side of the UK,
00:46
seeing a good amount of sunny spells. Temperatures though, after we've seen above average temperatures
00:51
for the past few weeks or so, noticeably down from that, even slightly below average for
00:56
the middle of October, around 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, Scotland and Northern Ireland 12
01:00
to 14 degrees Celsius for Wales and England. Any of the showers that we do have around
01:05
inland will tend to ease their way off overnight, but probably still persisting across some
01:10
western and northern coastal areas, perhaps pushing through the Cheshire Gap as well.
01:14
Underneath the starry skies that we do see inland though, temperatures will be widely
01:18
falling off, could be the coldest night of the autumn so far. Low single figures for
01:24
many of our towns and cities, but certainly dropping below freezing in some rural spots.
01:29
So quite a chilly start to Sunday morning. As we do head into Sunday though, it is high
01:34
pressure that is increasingly going to be the main driver of our weather. You'll notice
01:39
as well that those ice bars are spacing their way out, so the winds will be lighter on Sunday
01:44
compared to what we have seen around throughout Saturday. Despite that chilly start though,
01:48
a good amount of sunshine for many of us to compensate. The showers persisting across
01:53
the far north of Scotland where it will be cloudier throughout the day, perhaps a few
01:56
showers skirting the parts of East Anglia as well, but for many of us staying largely
02:00
dry and a good amount of weather throughout the day. Temperatures though still around
02:05
10 to 13 degrees Celsius, so feeling rather cold still, but at least some lighter winds
02:11
to compensate for a little bit. A relatively fine end to the weekend for many of us as
02:16
well. A little bit of late sunshine before the night begins to draw its way in. Staying
02:21
dry for much of Northern Ireland, Wales and England again, just those showers persisting
02:25
across the far north of Scotland. High pressure does look like it will stay in charge for
02:30
most of the middle of next week as well, but perhaps something a little bit more unsettled
02:34
arriving later on. But we'll have plenty of detail on that across our social media channels
02:38
and we'll be back again very shortly. Bye bye.
