Hello, there has been plenty of weather to talk about during 2019 and I'm sure there'll
00:05
be plenty more in 2020. But as we transition from one decade to the next, well, the weather
00:12
is looking largely fine. There'll be a lot of dry weather across the country for New
00:16
Year's Eve and New Year's Day, but there will be some low cloud drizzle and fog, especially
00:21
for southern and western parts of the country. High pressure extends across the whole of
00:26
Western Europe at the moment, keeping things settled. But this little feature, well, this
00:32
is a very weak area of low pressure and it will keep some showers going for New Year's
00:37
Eve itself into the south-west of England, mainly Cornwall, and it will extend an area
00:42
of low cloud across Wales, southern and south-western parts of England. That cloud covering the
00:49
hills and moors of the south-west, as well as the Welsh mountains. Milder in the south
00:54
and south-west, seven or eight Celsius. There will be a few spots of drizzle where the
00:59
low cloud is thickest, but otherwise it's largely dry. Eastern and northern England
01:04
sees clear skies at first, but under those clear skies temperatures will fall away, frost
01:08
forming in many places and some dense fog patches, especially for parts of Yorkshire
01:13
to watch out for as we head into the evening. Further north and west, clear skies at first
01:19
for Northern Ireland and Scotland, but low cloud creeps in during the evening itself.
01:23
And again that will bring a few spots of rain and drizzle to western hills and coasts, along
01:28
with a strengthening breeze there out to the far north-west into the Outer Hebrides. Again,
01:34
chilly here where we've got only clear skies into the low single figures or a touch below
01:38
freezing as the clock strikes midnight. However, for New Year's Eve it's worth emphasising
01:45
plenty of fine and dry weather about. New Year's Day, if you're heading out, well, it's
01:50
again looking largely settled. A lot of dry weather, but a lot more cloud compared to
01:56
New Year's Eve, especially for northern Britain, where the cloud is thickest over western hills,
02:00
for example. You couldn't rule out a few spots of drizzle. Temperatures a little lower compared
02:05
to recent days. We're into the mid to high single figures by and large, and then the
02:09
weather turns much more blustery overnight New Year's Day and into Thursday, especially
02:14
in the northwest. Like I say, I'm sure there'll be plenty more weather to talk about into
02:18
the 2020s. But for now, I just want to wish you a very happy New Year and stay up to date
02:24
on social media for all the very latest. Bye bye.
