After 2002, I couldn't tell you exactly, but there was probably only somewhere in
00:07
or around five to ten Oasis gigs after that in Scotland, if that. I know they did
00:13
Murrayfield a couple of times and they did, I think they did Brayhead Arena,
00:17
which was apparently not a great gig. You became less and less likely to be able to
00:21
see them live, just because I think, obviously there was friction in
00:28
the band that was going to end up in what happened in 2009 and it was on the
00:33
cards for a while, so it was just kind of, I'm glad I got them at that time. I could
00:37
have seen them even earlier than that if I'd been a wee bit more on the ball.
00:42
In 94, the year I went to my first gig, so 30 years ago, which is wild, they played
00:47
the Tramway in Pollock Shields, so it was part of this thing called Radio One
00:52
Sound City. It was basically like Radio One's Big Weekend now, but every year
00:57
they went to a different location or city and did this, like a series of shows
01:03
from the city, so in 94 it was Glasgow and I remember I wanted to go and see
01:08
this band Therapy and my mum phoned up, my mum phoned up for tickets for me and
01:13
then she shouted through, she went, there's tickets, she was like, is it Therapy
01:17
in Kerb Dog you want or the Boo Radleys in Oasis? And I was like, Therapy in Kerb Dog.
01:22
So Therapy in Kerb Dog was on the Friday, Boo Radleys, with Oasis as support, was on
01:27
the Sunday and later that year my uncle bought me Definitely Maybe for my
01:31
birthday on CD and I was like, oh this is just that new band that everyone thinks are
01:37
great and my uncle's obviously just got it as like a tokenistic, I'll get you this
01:42
because this is the band that everyone's listening to, and then I listened to the
01:46
album and I was like, oh no, I've made a terrible error, I should have gone and seen them
01:50
when I had the opportunity and then, and then it just blew up so big, like Loch
01:55
Lomond happened and I was just a bit too young, my mum would never let me go to Loch
02:00
Lomond at 15 or whatever age I was, no chance, so I had to like, and there was a gig in
02:07
Irvine Beach as well, I remember my mate Greeny from school went to that and it was
02:11
in a tent at Irvine Beach, I think, I think it was maybe cast that were supporting, so
02:17
it makes sense that cast are now supporting them next year at these big shows, as
02:23
Richard Ashcroft from The Verve, The Verve actually had Oasis open for them like back
02:28
in the day at the Cat House, they played the Cat House and then Oasis then came back and
02:33
did two nights at the Cat House headlining, but they supported The Verve at the Cat House
02:38
and supported The Verve quite a few places I think as well, so it's cool that they're
02:43
giving that opportunity back to a guy like Richard Ashcroft who gave them a shot at the
02:50
beginning of it all, so it's kind of, I don't know, karma, something like that, but yeah,
02:59
a band that have just always been part of my life, been part of the fabric of my life
03:04
and I've seen so many bands in here trying to be like Oasis, and then with the hair,
03:12
the jacket, the trainers and everything else, countless bands, you can just see the influence
03:20
so it's a massive deal that they're back. Did I think it would happen? We always spoke
03:28
in here like, oh imagine if they got back together, do you think it's going to happen?
03:32
And then there was some things that I saw and heard earlier on this year that was making
03:37
me think, I think this might happen, you know, but something about those Definitely Maybe
03:42
shows I was like, it's Mourning Gory anniversary next year, if ever they were going to do it,
03:48
surely it would make sense to be next year, and then lo and behold it is.
