Malaysia should consider enacting a framework to regulate generative artificial intelligence
00:07
to prevent its misuse.
00:09
This is what U.S.-based broadcaster and political commentator Mehdi Hassan said, adding that
00:14
the government should consider a blueprint similar to the AI Bill of Rights currently
00:19
being mooted in the U.S.
00:22
Although the U.S.'s AI Bill of Rights is not legally binding, the former MSNBC presenter
00:28
said it serves as a timely and relevant guide to understanding the threats and opportunities
00:33
of this emerging technology.
00:35
In 2022, the U.S. White House Office of Science and Technology Policy released the blueprint
00:41
for an AI Bill of Rights.
00:44
It outlined a framework for the government, tech companies, and citizens to work together
00:50
to ensure greater accountability for AI.
00:54
Meanwhile, Hassan also warned about AI's potential to deceive people, threaten democratic
00:59
processes, and the integrity of free and fair elections.
01:03
However, he expressed optimism about AI's future in journalism and media, saying it
01:09
can automate tasks like data analysis, fact-checking, and report creation, allowing journalists
01:15
to focus on more critical work.
01:18
Hassan said AI could boost workforce efficiency and productivity, while also expanding human
01:24
capital by creating new opportunities in industries like the media.
01:30
