00:00Dengjialou is a beautiful island off the sea.

00:02It used to be a shelter for hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees,

00:05which is why it is also nicknamed the Little West Palace.

00:07It's okay if you don't understand.

00:10The beach, the seaside and the blue sky

00:11are the new favorites of those who love diving in Bidong Island.

00:13At that time, it was the reception center of the Vietnamese people.

00:17After the end of the Vietnam War in 1975,

00:19tens of thousands of Vietnamese people fled to Asia

00:22in the risk of their lives because of fear of the new regime.

00:24Malaysia is one of the most refugees-invaded countries.

00:27Due to humanitarian reasons,

00:28the Malaysian government placed these Vietnamese refugees

00:30on the island of Dengjialou.

00:32At its peak, it had received more than 250,000 refugees.

00:35These refugees relied on simple supplies

00:37to live on Bidong Island,

00:38waiting for the reception of the third country.

00:40In 1991, the refugee camp was closed.

00:42Bidong Island was returned to the Dengzhou government

00:44and listed as a protected island.

00:45Today, you can still see

00:48the ruins of the Vietnamese refugees' lives on the island.
