During his address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Sept 28, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said all parties should prioritise “peaceful coexistence” to address the territorial dispute in the South China Sea.
He also lamented the United Nations' failure in securing a ceasefire in the Israeli war with Hamas and Hezbollah in the Middle East.

00:00We must collectively pursue a different vision of South China Sea, a future in which this
00:13region is a zone of peace, stability and cooperation.
00:18We must adopt a collaborative approach, embedded in diplomacy and dialogue.
00:24Thus, I call upon all countries to abide by the UNCLOS in the conduct of maritime governance.
00:30We must prioritise peaceful and co-existence.
00:34This is also one of the many reasons the Member States must continue to work together.
00:39We stand at a critical juncture in world history, on the failure of global governance to address
00:46the genocide of Palestinians.
00:49And it has echoed across the world on the abysmal response by world leaders to end these
00:55horrendous crimes.
00:57Yet there are also many of us who have pursued justice for the people of Gaza.
01:04For almost one year now, we have raised our voices in protest and sought to establish
01:10a ceasefire.
01:12Again and again, our voices have been shut down in the Security Council through the power
01:20of veto.
01:21The mechanisms of Security Council have been abused to enable mass atrocities.
01:27Our failure to establish a ceasefire is no longer justifiable.
01:32We have run out of excuses, Mr President.
01:36It is time to address the problem.
01:39The veto should not be exercised at will.
01:42There must be interceptions in cases of crimes against humanity and attacks of civilian infrastructure.
01:51We must commit ourselves towards a reformed United Nations.
01:56Justice begins with ending impunity and ensuring accountability.
02:02For this to be realised, the undemocratic veto must be limited or abolished altogether.
