Her Majesty, Raja Zarit Sophia, Queen of Malaysia,
00:04
emphasized that while Malaysia has made considerable progress in advancing
00:08
women's rights,
00:09
the journey toward full equality is far from complete.
00:12
As we look towards the future,
00:15
Malaysia is setting ambitious targets that will propel us further
00:20
along the path of gender equality and women's empowerment.
00:24
Some of these goals and strategies being implemented
00:28
to achieve them include achieving 100%
00:32
secondary school completion rates for girls by 2030,
00:36
increasing women's representation in Parliament to 30%
00:40
by 2028, reducing the gender pay gap
00:44
to less than 5% by 2030,
00:47
and ensuring that 40% of senior management positions
00:52
are held by women by 2035.
00:56
Together, we can create a Malaysia where every girl completes her education,
01:02
where women's voices are equally represented in our highest decision-making bodies,
01:07
where equal pay receives equal work,
01:10
where equal work receives equal pay,
01:12
and where women lead our organisations in equal measure to many.
01:18
To achieve these goals, we need collaborative effort from all sectors of society.
01:24
And I call upon everyone, leaders, entrepreneurs and change-makers
01:29
to join in this noble pursuit.
01:32
Let us work together to build a world where every woman and girl
01:36
can reach her full potential.
01:39
Speaking at the 2024 World Women Economic and Business Summit and Awards in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday,
01:45
Her Majesty highlighted Malaysia's significant legislative and policy advancements
01:49
in promoting gender equality.
01:52
We have strengthened laws against gender-based discrimination and sexual harassment,
01:58
ensuring safer workplaces and public spaces for women.
02:02
Our Women in Leadership Programme has also successfully increased
02:06
female representation in corporate boardrooms
02:10
from 16% in 2017 to 28% today,
02:15
with a target of 30% by the year 2025.
02:20
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Syukri,
02:25
in her welcome address titled,
02:27
Power and Parity, Rewriting the Rules for the Future,
02:31
stressed that her speech was not merely a call to action,
02:34
but a mandate for transformative change in Malaysia's landscape.
02:38
I would like to emphasise the importance of intensifying our efforts
02:42
to achieve gender equality.
02:46
Our actions must be guided by the understanding that
02:49
women's meaningful participation in all areas of public life,
02:54
particularly in the economy,
02:56
is not only beneficial for women,
02:59
but also for men,
03:01
family and society as a whole.
03:04
At the summit, star media group, SMG,
03:07
was honoured with the Outstanding World Media Award for advancing and championing women's issues.
03:12
The group's Chief Content Officer, Datin Paduka Esther Ang,
03:15
remarked that the award is especially meaningful as SMG has consistently been
03:20
at the forefront of advocating for women's rights and gender equality.
03:24
She added that the group remains committed to nation building,
03:27
and will continue to push for recognition of women's contributions and leadership.
