00:00She was a pioneering black woman MP, the first ever to be elected as one of the four black
00:09Labour members of Parliament elected in 1987.
00:13She's a Labour MP now, she's the mother of the house, a great Labour pioneer who I have
00:20a great deal of respect for and I think that the best tribute that there is to Diane Abbott
00:26is actually that so good a pioneer was she that there are now 90 black Asian minority
00:34ethnic MPs in the Parliamentary Labour Party and she was the first ever woman.
00:38I'm sorry that she does feel she was let down, I was in the Prime Minister's questions when
00:44she tried and failed to get called after the Hester, the vile Hester remarks, the person
00:50remember who's given £20 million to the Tory party and they've said that they will, they've
00:55refused to say that they will refuse any further donations.
00:59I saw the now Prime Minister Keir Starmer go up to her after that Prime Minister's questions
01:05to check that she was okay, actually went up and talked to her.
01:09So I think that she's got fantastic support amongst the Parliamentary Labour Party, many
01:16of whom like me regard her as a pioneer who's worthy of great respect.
