Olly McDonald first goal

Olly McDonald scored his first Elgin City goal to equalise as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Bonnyrigg Rose in SPFL League 2.

00:00It's an instinct finish, basically. I can't really remember much about it.

00:06It all came into the box, I think it just ricocheted out.

00:08Somebody's tried to clear it with a header and it's bounced it and just kind of made decent contact with it.

00:14It's what every substitute wants to do. You know, you didn't get an awful lot of time on the park.

00:19It's sometimes a really short time to make an impression, so to be able to do that and stick it in the net is crucial for you.

00:24I think as a striker, when you're coming on, it's probably the best time to come on, maybe.

00:29People might be like, I'm getting beat, but it's an opportunity for you to come on and make an impact as a striker

00:33and try and either set up a goal or score a goal or make some sort of positive impact on the result.

00:38I think we've done that today.

00:42It was a catalyst for the late Serge. A point in that circumstance might not have been a bad outcome, but you wanted the win, didn't you?

00:50That's something we spoke about before the game. We're playing at home, people don't really like coming up to Elgin.

00:57We need to kind of make it a focus, as they say.

01:02But again, it's a good positive result for us and it keeps on beating on going and winning home form.

01:10Could this be a turning point for you personally? I'm sure it's been frustrating for you.

01:15Maybe not as many minutes in the park as you would have liked, as any player is the same.

01:19Could this be the one that triggers a real surge in your Elgin career?

01:24I hope so. My job in the summer is to try and help him score some goals.

01:30As you said, I've not played as much as I would like. A wee bit through injury and stuff as well.

01:36But I'll come on today and make an impact in the game.

01:40I say to him in the summer when we have a number of conversations, I say I'm trying to play within the box.

01:46I like scoring goals. Everywhere I've been, I've been all been outstanding.

01:51I've never been easy on the ice, some may say, but I try and score goals.

01:56I've probably done that everywhere I've been.

01:58It's a positive on a personal note for me and positive for the team as well.

02:03It's such a competitive squad. When you see guys like Brian Cameron, who's been the longest serving player at the club,

02:07sitting on the bench alongside you today, it tells you that nobody's guaranteed a place.

02:11That's one thing we've got. We've got a very big squad.

02:14I don't think it's as big as in numbers. I think we've got a very strong, good squad.

02:21Again, it's very early in the season. You don't want to get too carried away.

02:24But looking at faces in the changing room and stuff, the training is very competitive and the quality is there as well.

02:33I hope we can just continue the good form and take it from here.

02:38You'll be knocking on the door for a start. You don't want to be one of these super subs.

02:41You'll be wanting that starting berth if you can.

02:43100 per cent. Everybody wants to play. As we say, we've got 25-26 signed players now.

02:49Everybody's the same. Everybody wants to play games.

02:52It's about when you get an opportunity, try and take it.

02:56I hope the manager puts a wee bit of faith in you and you go and get a run in the team.
