00:00They need to act fast. These residents in south-west Poland are rushing to block a fierce

00:06flow of water from entering their homes by lining up sandbags. Unusually strong rainfall

00:11and high winds have caused the nearby Biala River to surge as Storm Boris batters its

00:17way through Eastern Europe.

00:19It's disrupting other countries like Romania, particularly in the east, where hundreds of

00:24people have been rescued from villages like this one where water levels rose up to two

00:29metres flooding houses.

00:32I tried to save a maximum of stuff in my house, but it was all lost as the water came too

00:39quickly.

00:43Storm Boris has also raged through the Czech Republic, where almost 50,000 homes were left

00:49without electricity on Saturday as river waters reached dangerously high levels, prompting

00:55the evacuation of hundreds.

00:58We were ordered to evacuate, so we don't want to complicate things like getting stuck and

01:04then mobilising someone who could be more useful somewhere else, rescuing people or

01:09something like that.

01:13Austria, Slovakia and Hungary are also battling the storm, as Austria suspended its rail services

01:19in the east due to a risk of river flooding and Slovakia declared a state of emergency

01:23in its capital, with authorities fearing that such extreme weather conditions are the consequences

01:29of climate change and are becoming more frequent on the European continent.
