How to Deal with Shaytan

00:00Shaitan is relentless, so we have to be repentant.

00:10He's relentless and we're not perfect.

00:14So that leaves only one course of action and that is repentance.

00:18That's all we have available to us.

00:20So I wanted to talk about the remedy in terms of dealing with this onslaught, with this

00:24attack, with this external pushing and pulling that we're constantly dealing with.

00:29How do we stand strong against it?

00:31This external force.

00:32إِنَّ شَيْطَانَ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌ فَاتَّخِلُهُ عَدُوًّا

00:35Shaitan is your opponent, he is your enemy, so identify him as such.

00:42Identify him as such.

00:45What are my tools?

00:46What are my weapons that I need in this case?

00:49The first thing is that we have to rely upon our connection with Allah.

00:55Go ahead and call it du'a, but we have to constantly be invoking the mercy, the help,

01:00the assistance from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

01:02أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

01:05رَبِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ

01:08Constantly ask Allah to protect you against Shaitan.

01:11There's a very beautiful dhikr or remembrance the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam used

01:15to make.

01:16أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

01:17مِنْ هَمَزِهِ وَنَفَخِهِ وَنَفَثِهِ

01:25And then the second thing Shaitan does is Shaitan will try to instigate.

01:40He'll try to make things flare up between you and people.

01:44The Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam in a narration,

01:45نَفَخَهِ

01:46He referred to it as Kibr.

01:48The Hamas is the junoon of Shaitan.

01:50Shaitan is like obsessive.

01:52He's obsessed with us.

01:54The نَفَخَهِ is that Shaitan is arrogant.

01:57So he wants you to be arrogant and walk around like an arrogant person being rude and obnoxious

02:02and picking fights with other people.

02:06And then the last point is نَفَثَ

02:09And نَفَثَ basically means when somebody gets so close to you and speaks to you,

02:13so passionately speaking to you so close that they're spitting on you while they're talking

02:18to you.

02:19You don't say it, don't spray it.

02:22Some people when they talk to you, they share too much, right?

02:25That's نَفَثَ

02:27And what that basically means is Shaitan will get it, come here and whisper to you.

02:33And he will never give up.

02:35He's relentless.

02:36So what do we have to do?

02:37We have to keep asking Allah to protect us from Shaitan.

02:40Step number one, constantly all the time.

02:42And interestingly in the Quran, one of the places where Allah tells us to constantly

02:46seek Allah's protection from Shaitan is فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ

02:52When you sit down to read the Quran, the Quran is a part of your defense against Shaitan

02:59and his onslaught.

03:01Read the Quran.

03:02But Allah didn't say فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ

03:06Don't just recite but read.

03:07You get a translation, you read along with the translation.

03:10You try to understand what you're reading.

03:13If you work with the Quran every single day, that is a part of your defense mechanism,

03:19your shield against Shaitan and his attack.

03:23The Prophet ﷺ tells us there are four times when Shaitan, he basically cursed himself,

03:30where he was miserable.

03:32And the last of those four times are when Surah Fatiha was revealed.

03:36The Quran is something that completely hits back Shaitan with more force than he can deal

03:43وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُوا فَاحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ

03:48Surah number 3, ayah number 135.

03:50That those who did wrong, those who did bad things or they transgressed the limits and

03:56the laws that Allah has set for them, ذَكَرُوا اللَّهَ

04:00Then they immediately turn around and talk to Allah and speak to Allah and turn to Allah

04:05فَاسْتَغْفَرُوا لِذُنُوبِهِمْ

04:07And they ask Allah to forgive the wrong that they just committed that Allah completely forgives

04:11them and absolves them from the burden and the sin of what they've committed.

04:15That Shaitan, Iblis, when he heard this ayah, he broke down crying.

04:20What made him cry was two things.

04:23Number one, not only the fact that the human being was afforded this opportunity to be

04:26able to immediately repent for the wrong that he had done, that Shaitan felt like he was

04:30not given.

04:31And then the second thing is the fact that Shaitan realizes, I had to work for days,

04:36maybe weeks, maybe months to get this person to do this bad thing.

04:42And that person immediately turns around and says, Oh Allah, I messed up.

04:45I'm so sorry.

04:46Please forgive me, Allah.

04:47And immediately everything's reset.

04:51So talk to Allah.

04:54Ask Allah to protect you from this onslaught, from this outside attack.

04:58Secondly, build a relationship with the Quran.

05:02And thirdly and finally is ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for forgiveness.

05:07It doesn't matter how badly you messed up.

05:10Immediately in that moment, the second it occurs to you, find a quick little corner.

05:14Go sit down somewhere quietly.

05:16Go stand in a corner by yourself and say, Oh Allah, I messed up.

05:19Please forgive me.

05:32I'm sorry.

05:33I'm sorry.

05:34I'm sorry.
