Hundreds of runners take to Mount Coot-Tha to 'reclaim the trails' in face of recent attacks

The event was organised in Brisbane to give people confidence in running the trails in the wake of random attack. Four incidents on paths at Mt Coot-tha, and one nearby, were reported to police in May and June.

It's stopped women, especially, to get out on these trails on their own,

I have a lot of friends who are not out on the trails at the moment.

They're running on treadmills or they're running on the road

or they're just not running at all.

In a Saturday morning show of solidarity,

hundreds of hikers, walkers and runners came together

to reclaim the trails.

I think it's a great response to what happened.

It's very important for us to stand up and show our support.

Labor MP Jonty Bush organised the event.

It's been a really great opportunity to bring people together,

to get out on the trails and to remind people that they are really safe

and we need to keep them that way.

Police have ramped up patrols

and Council has installed 80 security cameras.

They cover all entries and are monitored 24-7.

The message from the hundreds of women here today is clear.

They deserve to feel safe on these trails

and they're taking them back.
